Toby and the Beast
In a small, secluded mountain village, there lived an ordinary boy named Toby. Toby wasn't known for his bravery or strength. His soft demeanor often made him the target of the village bullies. However, Toby had a gift; he could talk to animals. He kept it a secret fearing they might find him even weirder. Despite this, Toby managed to live a quiet, peaceful life. Well, that was until the day the beast came.
The village was nestled at the base of the great Mithraic mountain. Legend had it that a beast resided within it, but it hadn't emerged for centuries. The beast had been asleep, but a group of explorers scaling the mountain woke him up. In retaliation, the beast started descending towards the village, destroying everything in its path.
Toby was coming back from the woods when he saw the frightened animals rushing down. He spoke to a terrified rabbit, and through quick, panicked thoughts, he learnt about the beast. As panic ensued, at first, Toby was as paralyzed as everyone else - but then he remembered his gift.
In the chaos, Toby called out to the birds, instructing them to send out a plea for help to all the animals. The news spread quickly, through the rustling of leaves and the drumming of hooves, every creature of the forest understood the urgency.
The village council decided to evacuate everyone. Toby, however, stayed behind despite his parents begging him to leave. With a grim yet determined look, he relayed his plan to the village chief, who gave his solemn nod. As the villagers left their homes behind, Toby was ready to execute his plan.
With a deep breath, Toby began to sing. His voice echoed through the mountains, beautiful, soothing, and ringing with strength it had never held before. As his melody reached the ears of the animals, they gathered. Birds of all types, bears, deer, even snakes, came at Toby's call.
As the beast drew closer, Toby's heart pounded in his chest. He continued singing, never breaking his melody. When the beast arrived at the foothills, he saw the collection of animals. Toby, standing at the center, fearless and determined, kept singing.
Confused, the beast stopped in its tracks. Watching this strange sight, the beast seemed almost enchanted. Toby began to change his tune to a lullaby as sweet as a mother's laugh, as soft as the first snowfall. The beast, intrigued, quietened down and gradually became docile. It listened, and slowly, its huge eyes began to droop. By the time Toby's lullaby had ended, the beast was sound asleep.
Toby's song had not only reached the ears of the beast and animals. It had gotten to each evacuee, who began to return as they heard the song's end. When they arrived, they were amazed at the sight of Toby, standing victoriously near the sleeping beast.
Everyone celebrated Toby's bravery. Toby, who was known as the village punching bag, became the hero overnight. As for the beast, it was tamed, and with Toby's help, it returned to its mountain dwelling and resumed its centuries-long sleep.
From that day forward, Toby learnt to embrace his gift, learning and understanding more about the natural world. In doing so, Toby not only saved his village but also forged a bond between the villagers and the animals, thereby creating a harmonious co-existence.
