The Whispering Walls

Once upon a time, nestled between towering mountains and a tranquil river, thrived a small picturesque village named 'Tuckerdell'. Tuckerdell was famous for its serenity, the warmth of its people and one curious entity, a grand old mansion known as 'The Whispering Walls'.
The Whispering Walls were not just ordinary walls. They were said to echo the whispers of the past, stories that existed ages ago. Legends had it, the people of the village could hear indistinct murmurings seeping out of the structure, especially on the calmest of nights.
The mansion housed the affluent Harper family, known for their opulent lifestyle and mysterious demeanour. The Harpers included Mr. and Mrs. Harper and their cheerful, vivacious daughter, Ada. Besides having a reputation for being the wealthiest, the Harpers were also notorious for their strict secrecy, giving rise to numerous gossips among the villagers.
One highly repeated gossip was about the mysterious room at the topmost corner of the mansion. The Harpers lived in the estate for years, but that room had always remained closed.
Things changed when Ada, the Harper's daughter, found an ancient key from her father's old chest. Driven by natural curiosity, she disobeyed the forbidden rule and unlocked the room. Inside, Ada found herself surrounded by a plethora of antique things covered in years of dust. The room was filled with the fragrance of old wood and lost times. However, what intrigued her most was a grand old mirror decorated with intricate designs.
The mirror was unlike any others she had seen. It was covered with complex patterns, intermeshed circles, strange symbols, and carvings of peculiar creatures and stars. She gave her reflection a fleeting glance in the mirror and suddenly, felt an eerie breeze around her.
Days turned into weeks, and Ada became strangely attached to the mirror. She would spend hours watching her reflection, often murmuring, whispering to herself, or so it was thought. Her laughter echoed through the lonely halls followed by the whispers of the walls. The villagers noticed the change. The walls seemed louder, the whispers clearer, but profoundly unsettling.
Scared villagers summoned a wise old woman, thought to have the powers to speak with spirits. The woman, named Edna, entered the mansion with a determined look on her face. As she climbed the stairs leading to the mysterious room, she could hear Ada's laughter echoing in the corridor.
Upon entering the room, Edna saw Ada standing before the mirror, talking and laughing as if in conversation with her own reflection. Edna held her ground and cautiously approached Ada, who seemed lost in the world of the mirror.
With a heavy heart and a brave spirit, Edna decided to perform an ancient ritual to break the mirror's spell. As she started chanting age-old mantras, the mirror started shuddering, the walls of the mansion wailed in response. The reflection in the mirror changed, revealing gruesome faces that seemed lost and desperate. With one final chant, the mirror exploded into fine dust, leaving Ada collapsed on the floor.
When Ada opened her eyes, she was back in her old world, released from the spellbinding grip of the mirror. From that day forward, the whispering walls ceased their murmuring, receding back to the silence that marked the original tranquillity of Tuckerdell. Ada learnt her lesson and the villagers learnt a story, a story of the Whispering Walls and their secrets.
