The Voyage of Golden Truth
Once upon a time, in the sun-drenched hamlet of Cressida nestled by a calm river, lived a young boy named Robin. Being the only son of a humble blacksmith, Robin was raised to be generous and kind hearted. He nursed a secret fascination for voyages and often dreamt of sailing the far-reaching oceans, gaining wisdom, seeing the unseen and perhaps encountering miracles.
When Robin turned 15, something extraordinary happened. A stranger arrived in Cressida, clutching a worn-out map and whispering tales about a hidden, lost city made up of pure gold - El Dorado. Captivated, Robin, felt instinctively that this was his calling.
He bid his parents farewell with a sense of purpose that mingled with a fear of the unknown. He accompanied the mysterious traveler on the greatest journey of his life. The duo navigated daunting terrains and tumultuous rivers, but the prospect of reaching El Dorado fueled their bond and determination.
After several months of relentless struggle, their diligence yielded results. Led by the cryptic map, Robin and the stranger found a forgotten passage engulfed by the thick forest. The path, untraveled for centuries, was veiled by dense moss and blanketed by an eerie silence. Treading cautiously, they eventually reached a gigantic, golden gate adorned with ancient symbols whose sinuous curves and bends foretold tales of an era lost in time.
The gate led to El Dorado. It was a sight beyond comprehension; a dazzling city made up entirely of glittering gold. The exploration was enchanting but short-lived, for they soon realized that the city was doomed. All inhabitants were living statues of gold, victims of an age-old curse that said anyone who lived in the city were to be transmuted into gold at sunset. It was land of riches which paid its price in life itself.
Heavy-hearted yet wiser, Robin and the stranger left El Dorado, carrying with them, not gold, but a priceless lesson. They returned to Cressida where Robin was greeted like a hero. Yet, Robin was humble, he shared his story not as a triumph, but a fable, a cautionary tale about the illusions of boundless wealth. The marvel and dread of El Dorado served as a reminiscence of the delicate balance between man’s ambition and nature’s inevitability.
Robin lived out his life in Cressida, his voyage-turned-fable inspiring generations to seek true riches – love, kindness, and wisdom. Every evening before sunset you would find him near the calm river, staring into the horizon, contemplating perhaps on the city of gold, the lost adventure or the lessons learnt.
The stranger too, disappeared into oblivity after passing on the map and the cautionary tale to Robin who safeguarded it till his last breath. The map and the tale of El Dorado remained a legacy in Cressida, fondly remembered and repeatedly recited till the end of time.
Isn't it ironic that the city of gold was not what Robin was seeking, but a profound understanding of the essence of life, a more precious treasure? Life surely, has a mysterious, and poetic way of teaching us lessons, in ways we least expect, and sometimes, in places unimaginable.
