The Voyage of Destiny: A Tale of the Kiantar
It had been weeks since the ship had touched the shore. The last piece of solid ground they had touched was the Island of Akator located at the edge of the humanity. The ship's name was 'Destiny', and it only seemed fitting given the voyage they had embarked upon.
Captain John Rosco, the rugged sea-dog, known for his mighty courage and wits, led the crew. For the past 20 years, he had been on countless sea excursions but this journey was different & unprecedented. The aim wasn't trade, discovery or war. They were in pursuit of a mystical sea creature, a legend of folklore, said to possess divine powers- ‘The Kiantar’.
The Kiantar was narrated as a divine and colossal sea creature resembling ‘an island in the middle of the sea’; its belly was the land, its back the mountain and eyes, two radiant lighthouses. It was said the one who tames the Kiantar could control the sea and its vast treasures. The myth was what had led Captain John and his captivatingly diverse crew – the sailor, the cook, the medic, the carpenter, and the chronicler, to together partake in this adventurous journey.
On an eerily calm day as the sun was setting with its golden hue spread across the endless ocean, the men saw something unusual, miles away. As they approached closer their eyes widened in surprise; It was the Kiantar, just as described in the omnipresent tales. Awe-struck, they found excitement mingling with a whiff of uncertainty about their next move.
‘Set the course for the island, men!’ Captain Rosco ordered with a newfound determination echoing in his voice. The ship was anchored closer to the Kiantar. As the crew stepped onto the rough skin of the creature, it felt like embarking a new world. The Kiantar didn’t resist, it laid still, intrigued and observant of the puny beings climbing upon it.
However, their joy was short-lived. A sudden violent wave shook the ship. The crew, hastily ran towards it whilst the creature let out an echoing roar. It wasn't the island they had believed, it was very much alive and furious.
As the crew on the ship tried to gain control, Captain Rosco found himself all alone on the creature's back. Staring into the eyes of the all-important beast, he tried to communicate his goodwill. However, words failed him, and despite his efforts, he couldn’t convince the creature.
In the dire circumstances, the cook found an unusual solution. They cooked a mighty feast using all the leftovers they had - the magnificent aroma filling the air caught Kiantar's attention. In a beautiful display of gratitude, the beast bowed before the ship, and Captain Rosco offered the feast to it. As the Kiantar accepted, the entire ship rejoiced, feeling the connection they had established with the divine beast.
The journey back to the shore was miraculously calm, guided by the Kiantar itself. Their remarkable tale of the encounter with the Kiantar became an inspiration to every sailor, binding them with a code of humility, courage, and respect towards the colossal sea.
With this experience, the crew rediscovered their belief in myths, the strength of nature and the power within themselves. They understood that the treasures of the sea were not just its material wealth but lay in the unique experiences and beautiful creatures it housed. The voyage of Destiny’s crew became a tale passed down the generations in maritime folklore, enchanting listeners with their capture of the sea.
