The Valley of Light
Once upon a time, in a mysterious land covered with dense forests and towering mountains, existed a tranquil village named Arkville, overlooked by an enormous dormant volcano. The village was inhabited by a community of hardworking people known for their craftsmanship in creating intricate artifacts and radiant tapestries that blended the tranquillity of the village and the mystery of the volcano.
The village, however, had a bittersweet family tale as popular as the village reputation. These tales were spun around the tradition of the village chief, passing the mantle to the older of two siblings, a tradition that had been kept alive for centuries. And in the succeeding generation, the tradition poised at the brink of a shift.
The older son was born with extraordinary eyes that glowed like the volcano itself. His name was Vertue, and his temperament was said to match the serenity of his glow. The younger son, Fervor, was born normal and grew up with an insatiable curiosity for the world beyond the valley. However, he was prone to jealousy and resented being perpetually overshadowed by his older brother.
Their father, the village chief, was at the edge of his years. He summoned the council of elders and announced his decision to step down and pass the torch to Vertue. But Fervor, blinded by his envy, misinterpreted this as a personal betrayal. He went to the Lady Enchantress, a mysterious sorcerer living on the fringes of the village, seeking her help in achieving power greater than his brother's.
The Enchantress agreed but warned him of the price he would have to pay. Unfazed, Fervor consented, believing that he existed only in the shadow of his brother's flame. He was given a potion, and upon drinking it, his eyes mirrored the sky at midnight, with stars that danced wildly but hypnotically.
The village, unaware of Fervor's dark transformation, celebrated Vertue's coronation. The ritual demanded Vertue to channel his energy into the Guardian Crystal atop the volcano, ensuring the valley's continued prosperity and safety. However, Fervor, driven by resentment and the thirst for recognition, interrupted the ritual and challenged Vertue to a duel.
A battle ensued between the brothers. Fervor's newfound power made him a formidable opponent; however, the strength of Vertue's calming aura continued to keep him at bay. But Fervor's aggressive power was too strong and dangerous, threatening the safety of the village and causing a destabilization in the volcano.
The villagers pleaded with Vertue to save them. The older brother, seeing the fear in people's eyes, nullified their power from the duel and directed it all towards the crystal at the mountaintop, triggering a brilliant eruption that engulfed the sky, casting an unearthly glow on the entire valley. The eruption ceased, leaving the valley untouched, and Vertue drained, collapsed.
Fervor, filled with regret, mourned his brother's loss. The villagers acknowledged Vertue's sacrifice, forever immortalizing his glory in their hearts and history. Fervor, through the transformations of sorrow and understanding, took over the mantle from his fallen brother, vowing to guide the valley with Vertue's light.
Eventually, the Valley of Arkville came to be known as the Valley of Light. It remained safe and prosperous while the story of the brothers was written in the annals of the village. The village inherited the glow from Vertue and the newfound wisdom of Fervor, bringing about an era of growth and prosperity, sought by other nations.
