The Unseen Whisper

Once upon a time, in the bustling city of Hemloch, surrounded by huge skyscrapers, frenetic traffic and lights brighter than the moon, dwelled a blind and mute girl named Ellie. Ellie lived with her humble family in a small apartment located at the edge of the city. And while she was mute and blind, there was nothing wrong with her hearing. It was her only connection to the world.
One day, an incident occurred in their neighborhood. A local mart had been robbed, and everyone was in utter dismay. Being unable to voice questions, it was through eavesdropping on the conversations of others, that Ellie gathered the fragments of this awful event.
During this time, Ellie discovered something unusual – an ability she never knew she had. She began hearing soft whispers that no one else could. They weren’t regular sounds, but feelings, emotions, and fears which found a way to utter themselves to her. They were the 'unseen' whispers.
One evening, as Ellie was sitting in the park, she heard another unusual whisper. It spoke of guilt, panic, and regret. These whispers led her to Tom, a teenager who lived in the apartment next door. Something seemed off about his whispers, different from the worried whispers of others about the robbery. She couldn’t see his face, nor could she ask him, but his guilt-ridden whispers gave her a hint that something was gravely wrong.
Unable to resist, she guided herself to Tom’s apartment door, signaling her intent. Tom, knowing Ellie since childhood, allowed her into his house. The moment she stepped in, the whispers grew louder. The emotions transmitted intensely – fear, regret, bitterness.
In a silent conversation with Tom's whispers, Ellie asked if he was involved in the robbery. The whispers responded yes. Ellie felt a sudden heaviness in the room, a mixture of regret and a plea for help.
She knew she had to help Tom. Unable to speak, she wrote her plan on a paper pad she always carried. Tom was hesitant, afraid of the consequences, but agreed, seeing no other way out.
A few days later, Ellie, using her newly discovered ability, guided Tom to the police station. Her plan was simple: Tom would return the stolen money, apologize, and hope for leniency due to his willingness to correct his mistake.
Tom followed her plan. He returned the money, confessed his crime, and apologised. The police, after some deliberation, decided to give him another chance due to his honesty and the involvement of Ellie, who they knew and respected.
The neighborhood found out about Tom's crime and his confession. Gossip swirled about Ellie’s unusual abilities. Ellie was seen as a local hero, a silent vigilante. She made peace with the fact that the rest of her life might involve sorting whispers and feeling the raw, unfiltered emotions of the world. She stepped up, knowing she was given this ability for a reason.
This story of Ellie, the mute and blind girl orchestrating the confession of a thief, is a tale Hemloch city remembers as 'The Unseen Whisper.' Today, Ellie is known to all, not as an impaired girl, but as a unique individual with an incredible ability to channel people’s deepest, unseen emotions – a ability to listen 'the unseen whispers'
