The Unseen Mirror

Once upon a time, in the little seaside town known as Devonport, there lived a man named Thadius. He was a harmless, elderly man, known for his fascination with ancient artifacts and his reclusive lifestyle. Yet, what made Thadius truly remarkable to his town-folk was his uncanny resemblance to the wealthy town patriarch, Lord Penrose, whose grand mansion overlooked Devonport from atop a lush hill.
In reality, Thadius was the twin brother of Lord Penrose, abandoned at birth due to a prophecy that prophesied ruin upon Penrose's family if both the twins lived together. So, while Lord Penrose grew up in a world of wealth and privilege, Thadius led a modest life, sustained by small odd jobs and his in-depth knowledge of artifacts.
One day, Thadius came across an unusual looking, hand-held mirror at a local thrift shop. It was starkly different from those he usually found. Its frame was delicately crafted out of gold and encrusted with sapphires and rubies. Yet, the mirror was devoid of any reflection. Intrigued, Thadius purchased it and set upon discovering its history.
He spent days poring over age-old books and scriptures, looking for any reference of such an artifact. His persistence paid off when he found an obscure tale about a divine mirror that showed its viewer the truth they sought. Excitement simmered within him as he realized that he may have found the 'Unseen Mirror' spoken of in legends.
The following night, Thadius held the mirror with a trembling hand and asked, 'What is my truth?' Suddenly, the mirror glowed blindingly bright, and an image swirled into existence. It showed a grand mansion littered with drifting fall leaves- Lord Penrose's residence. Within it, Lord Penrose was on his deathbed, surrounded by sorrow-filled relatives. The image shook Thadius to his core. He rushed to the mansion only to find the scene in the mirror coming true.
Lord Penrose weakly gestured for everyone to leave the room. Alone with Thadius, he confirmed the shocking prophecy that led to their separation at birth. Thadius looked at his dying brother and realized how their lives had diverged, yet their blood found a way to pull them together in the end.
Tormented by regret and a newfound familial bond, Thadius brought out the Unseen Mirror, asking aloud, 'How can I save my brother?' The mirror glowed again, showing him an ancient healing ritual that required the healer's life in exchange.
Thadius was torn but knew he had a chance to make a difference, to reshape their destiny. He whispered a farewell to his unconscious brother and began the ritual with a heavy heart. The mansion was filled with a powerful golden aura, then silence fell. Thadius was found lifeless, with an eerily calm expression, while Lord Penrose woke up, rejuvenated.
The inhabitants of Devonport were shocked by the noble sacrifice Thadius had made. Never had they expected the quiet man to be a savior and the separated twin of Lord Penrose. In honor of Thadius, Lord Penrose established an artifact museum, with the 'Unseen Mirror' as its centerpiece. It served as a poignant reminder for him of the brother he barely knew yet saved his life. He often found himself reflecting, literally and metaphorically, on the mirror, contemplating the unseen lines that bound him to Thadius.
Meanwhile, the Unseen Mirror stood solemnly, reflecting the truth and penitence of a brother saved, a brother lost, and a bond written by fate yet unseen until the very last. The mirror had once more fulfilled its purpose, not in revealing unseen vanity but the unseen bonds of love and sacrifice.
