The Unseen Masters of Time

Once upon a time, in a realm far beyond our understanding known as 'The Aeon', lived ethereal beings whose duty was to supervise the ceaseless flow of time. These beings, referred to as 'Chronosapiens' - masters of Time's edge, were boundless, untouched by time and its erosive grasp, forever bathed in the nebulous glow of eternity.
Chronosapiens were categorized into two groups: the Past Seers and the Future Foretellers. Past Seers had the divine power to revisit any event in history, while Future Foretellers could prophesy any succession that awaited. Each group had an elder, the Past Seer's elder was 'Tempus Antiquus'; the Future Foreteller's elder was 'Tempus Futurae'.
Despite their impeccable providence, Tempus Antiquus and Tempus Futurae shared a profound longing – to exchange their respective powers. They both harbored secret envy, unconfessed yet palpable. Where Tempus Antiquus revered and longed for the thrill of prophecy, Tempus Futurae yearned for the serene comfort of historical certainty.
One day, while the rest of the Chronosapiens were immersed in their divine responsibilities, Tempus Antiquus approached Tempus Futurae with a proposition. 'There exists a forbidden time-spell, frowned upon by our kind, but it holds the power to swap our abilities. Would you dare to attempt such a feat?' The proposition was met with a thoughtful pause. After a moment of contemplation, Tempus Futurae agreed.
Drawn by an azure nebula, the elders met at the crossroads of their dominions. Their hearts throbbed with anticipation as they began reciting the forbidden incantation. As they finished, the ethereal realm trembled. Time fell into a discordant rhythm as two colossal force-fields interwove with each other, merging Tempus Antiquus and Tempus Futurae's powers. Then, there was silence.
Suddenly empowered by each other's capabilities, their triumphant gleam was short-lived as they realized the paradox they had created. Tempus Antiquus no longer had any recollection of the past, which was essential for him to guide the Past Seers. Similarly, Tempus Futurae found his visions of future wiped clean, which rendered him incapable of steering the prophetic actions of the Future Foretellers.
This caused a great imbalance in The Aeon. The past started to unravel while the future began to blur. Without the guidance of their elders, Past Seers and Future Foretellers found themselves helplessly trapped in their present and a fulcrum of confusion. Upon realizing their mistake, Tempus Antiquus and Tempus Futurae hurriedly tried to counter the spell. But they could not recall the incantation. Their past and future had become entangled with the threads of oblivion.
In despair, they sought assistance from Present Ponderers, the least endowed but most empathetic of the Chronosapiens. They could neither revisit the past nor prophesy the future but could aid others in understanding their present clearly.
With their help, Tempus Antiquus and Tempus Futurae managed to reinstate their powers to their correct bearers. The balance of time was restored, and The Aeon regained its rhythm. However, as a reminder of their recklessness and punishment for their actions, the elders were sentenced to remain in their current states. Tempus Antiquus, with the ability to foretell, Tempus Futurae, forever dwelling on the recollections of history.
Thus, the story of the unseen masters of time is of hubris, longing, despair, and ultimately wisdom. It serves as a timeless reminder to all Chronosapiens and us that the grass is not always greener on the other side, and that sometimes, our roles, however unfulfilling they may seem, are what is needed for the greater good.
