The Time Sage

In a world where everyone had come to disregard time, there was a village nestled between the mountains that adhered to a different rhythm. This village, named Zaman, was known for its sage, a wise, old woman named Serena, who held in her command the power to maneuver time.
Serena was a slender woman, with strands of beautiful ivory-colored hair that cascaded down to her narrow shoulders. Her wrinkles crusted with wisdom, her oceanic blue eyes reflecting potent moments from years long gone. Her innocence remained trapped in those orbits, revealing a childlike curiosity.
She had inherited the power of timewalking from her ancestors and lived a simple life, dedicating her existence to helping villagers understand the importance of moments and opportunities that time presented, unimpeded by its arbitrations. Every afternoon, after she had steeped the tea with herbs from her garden, she'd sit on a wooden chair by the mango tree and read the sands of time, foreseeing events, guiding villagers, teaching students, and sometimes, helping reunite lost ones.
In this village lived a young, restless boy by the name of Aris, who despised the hold time had over the world. His spirit was as rebellious as a wild stallion, having no understanding of time nor its significance. Yet, his curiosity for the unknown drew him to Serena. Aris would often sneak into Serena's sparsely furnished thatched house, observing her, her hourglass, the clock, in an attempt to understand the essence of time.
One starry night, a strange incident occurred. A cry echoed through the stillness, emanating from the house of Olivia, a young widow who had lost her husband to the passage of time. Her only son Nico was critically ill, with outbreaks of fever, fainting spells and hallucinations.
Certain the ailment was beyond the capabilities of the town's healer, Olivia limped frantically to Serena's door, begging her to use her powers to travel back to a time when Nico was healthy. Watching Nico's life flicker like a candle in the wind, Aris felt the hammer strike his heart. He rushed to Serena, pleading with her to intervene.
Serena, understood the gravity of the situation but was wary of the delicate balance, the laws of time. However, seeing the tears in Aris's eyes, a mirror of innocence and desperation, Serena decided to help. With the boy's dire condition, she realized the journey wouldn't be without peril.
Serena explained to Aris that time traveling had strict laws, meddling in them had unforgiving consequences. She stated that any changes made in the past had a tremendous ripple effect on the present and the future—maybe saving Nico would doom another, or even himself. Despite knowing the dangers, Aris decided to accompany Serena on this treacherous journey.
On a chilly night when the moon was at its zenith, they set course for the past. Serena held Aris's hand, the other hand was clutching her timewalker's rainmaker. A rumble passed through their bodies, and before they knew it, they were in the past.
The journey was far from smooth. Tormenting ghoul-like creatures from the timeline tried to obstruct their mission. But Serena, with her wisdom and wits, outsmarted them. With every step backward in time, Aris matured, understanding the significant role time played in shaping life, the joys, the sorrows, and the reality check it often thrust upon humans.
Finally overcoming all odds, they reached their target time. A time when Nico was a giggling toddler, nourishing seeds of dreams, and naive to worries of the world. Serena performed a symbolic ritual, transferring some energy from young, healthy Nico to the ether, which they sealed in their rainmaker.
Triumphantly they returned to the present, or future, from the perspective of the past, but appreciably unscathed. Distant drum sounds and occasional cricket chirps greeted them, as Serena transferred the sealed energy from the rainmaker to Nico. His shrouded eyes fluttered open as the color returned to his pallid face. The village celebrated the missed beats of their clocks, the temporal paradox remained unfelt, and Olivia's heartfelt laughter was the sweetest melody echoing in the quiet mountain pass.
In this journey, Aris had witnessed how changing one moment could drastically affect the course of life. He finally understood why Serena and time were so intangible— a cosmic dance of events connected by the delicate thin fabric of moments. Aris, with newfound respect for time, decided to become Serena’s apprentice, to learn, to understand, to respect time, for he knew, time might be a story that kept unfolding, but it also held the power to alter the future.
