The Thorned Rose

Once upon a time, in the land of Eryndor, lived a humble Greenfield family. The lineage was made up of simple-minded folk who lived off the land. Their eldest son, the kind-hearted and courageous Ewan, was always full of longing for something more than their rustic existence.
One hot summer day, an elderly traveler arrived at their humble abode. He was haggard, and his eyes held the weight of years of travelling. Out of customary kindness, the Greenfields invited him in for some homemade stew and refreshing cider. As the night settled, the old man began to speak of his travels. With his words, he painted majestic cities, treacherous terrains, secretive tribes, and hidden treasures. But the tale that stood out the most to Ewan was about a mystic rose guarded by a fearsome dragon. This rose, as he learned, had the power to grant a single wish of any brave soul who dared to pluck it.
Driven by the promise of adventure, Ewan thanked the old man for his stories and decided to seek out this rare rose. Leaving his family behind, he carried only a sack of food, a cloak, and a small dagger his father had given him.
His primary obstacle was the untamed Eryndan forest, an ancient labyrinth of towering trees and misty paths brimming with dangerous beasts. Despite several close encounters, Ewan's courage, trust in himself, and the foresight to avoid danger helped him cross it safely. His optimism carried him forward, with the thought of the mystical Thorned Rose spurring him on.
Finally reaching the dragon's lair atop the Imber Peak, Ewan was greeted by the fearsome sight of the dragon. He was massive, with scales harder than the toughest steel and eyes blazing with an infernal fire. Ewan approached the slumbering beast, each step carrying a silent prayer, his heart pounding like a war drum. He spotted the rose, its unique blend of crimson and gold unmistakable, nestled beside the dragon.
As he reached out to pluck the rose, the dragon's eyes flared open. Chaos ensued as the dragon spread its monstrous wings, releasing a deafening roar. Ewan stood his ground, speaking in a calm yet assertive tone, 'I mean you no harm, mighty dragon. I came only for the rose. If you allow me, I shall leave you in peace.' The dragon studied him, tilting its head, seemingly processing his words.
Much to his surprise, the dragon lowered its wings, nestled back to the ground, and gave a curt nod, granting him permission to take the rose. Ewan, with trembling hands, plucked the Thorned Rose. It was just as the old man had described, radiating an enchanting glow.
To Ewan, this adventure wasn't just about finding the Thorned Rose, but also about finding himself. He realized that he didn’t desire riches or power. His wish was to share his stories, inspire others to dream and explore the unknown. And with this wish in his heart, he thanked the dragon and journeyed back to his village. Upon his return, Ewan's stories of his daring adventures and the magical rose became legends, inspiring many young hearts to dream and explore the world beyond Eryndor.
And thus, the humble Ewan found his calling not by wishing upon a rose, but by embracing the adventure life had thrown his way. The tale of Ewan and the Thorned Rose still echoes in the lively banter around bonfires, a testament to the power of hope, courage, and heartfelt wishes.
