The Thorn Bearing Rose

Once upon a time, in the alluring kingdom of Avalon, amidst the rocky cliffs and the shimmering river, nested an awe-inspiring palace known as the Marble Citadel. The King, mighty and magnanimous, had an enchantingly beautiful daughter named Roselle. Roselle had radiating eyes full of compassion and innocence, complementing her enchanting beauty. But, what made her genuinely distinguished was her heart, teeming with love. She was a reflection of a sound soul in a beautiful body, a perfect amalgamation of beauty with wisdom.
Roselle had an unusual fascination with the kingdom's mystic garden, draping the palace's north. The garden housed many unique species of flora, birds, and other fauna coexisting harmoniously. The highlight of the garden was a unique rose - the 'Regal Red Rose' known for its sensual aroma and stunning beauty.
One day, while strolling across the garden, an old woman stopped by Roselle. Her face wrinkled with age, and her attire signified she was a wanderer. She was holding a captivatingly shiny blue stone in her hand, claimng it to grant one's most profound wish. Although Roselle was skeptical, she didn't want to shoo the woman away. She merely smiled, offering a share of her meal and a handful of golden coins.
Touched by her compassion, the old woman gave her the stone, insisting she keep it. Out of politeness more than belief, Roselle held the stone in hand and wishing in jest,'May the rose bloom throughout the year filling everyone's lives with its sweet aroma and vibrant colours'.
The next day Roselle woke to the sound of people's hustle in the garden. To her amazement, the Regal Red Rose had burst into full splendour overnight and filled the room with its soothing fragrance. Stunned yet smiling, she rushed into the garden. People came from all around Avalon to get a glimpse of the miracle. The rose stood, glistening in the first rays of the Sun, spreading its mesmerizing aroma all around.
The news reached far-off kingdoms. King Adrian of the eastern kingdom of Ebon paid a visit. Struck by the rose's beauty and the remedy in its scent, he requested a petal. Roselle hesitated. She feared cutting off a petal might harm the rose. However, King Adrian was stringent in his request. He offered countless treasures and riches in return with which the kingdom could flourish even more.
Bowing her head in uncertainty, Roselle finally yielded, cutting off a single petal. But, as she did, she was pricked by a thorn leaving her hand bleeding. In horror, she watched as the rose wilted and lost its vibrant color.
King Adrian, realizing the price the kingdom had to pay, apologized and offered his kingdom's best healers for Roselle. However, Roselle refused. She realized her error of yielding to human greed and injuring the very thing she loved.
Roselle held the blue stone once again, this time with a deep desire in her heart. 'I wish to sacrifice my own life force to return this garden to its complete glory,' she whispered. As she ended her wish, the stone turned into stardust, encircling her and the wilted rose's body.
A mystic light enraptured Roselle. She felt a slash of pain in her heart but immediately felt an itinerant wave of tranquillity and love. She opened her eyes to find the garden back to its glory - the birds singing, the river flowing, and amidst all, stood the Regal Red Rose, blooming vibrantly as ever. A teardrop slipped from her eyes as she whispered, 'Beauty is always paired with thorns. Love it, but never possess it.'
