The Tale of the Twisted Timelines
Once, in the city of Obsidia, lived a young, brilliant, yet reclusive inventor named Oliver. He was known for his eccentric inventions like the self-tying shoelaces and the flying umbrella; however, his true dream was to invent a Time Machine.
One fateful day, Oliver unveiled his greatest creation - a Time Machine named 'Kronos'. It was a spectacle to behold; a streaming vortex of colors and light surrounded by a shell of gleaming copper gears and dials. Obsidia was buzzing with anticipation, unaware of the adventure that lay ahead.
Oliver decided to change a past mistake. Seven years ago, a devastating flood had hit Obsidia, causing several casualties, including his childhood sweetheart, Emilia. He wanted to prevent that calamity. However, Oliver failed to anticipate the diaspora his actions would bring about.
As he traveled back, Oliver’s objective was simple; he would warn the city officials about the impending disaster. Carrying out his plan smoothly, he returned to his present timeline, eager to see the fruits of his actions. However, instead of the heartwarming reunion he expected with Emilia, he found Obsidia in ruins.
An unexplained plague had struck the saved citizens, a consequence of the changed timeline. The health officials, who otherwise would have been consumed by the flood, had inadvertently brought back a hitherto dormant pathogen. Without the natural cleansing the city witnessed through the flood, the pathogen ran rampant among the citizens.
Devastated, Oliver made another jump back in time. This time his mission was to stop himself from warning the city officials. Yet again, as he returned to his timeline, he found Obsidia drastically changed. The city had now developed a deep resentment towards inventions and inventors, blaming them for the flood calamity. They believed it was a punishment for mankind trying to play God. Oliver and his community of inventors were exiled from Obsidia.
Overwhelmed with sorrow and guilt, Oliver understood the fatal mistake he had made. He realized that time was an intricate loom of events, and even a minor change could unravel the fabric of reality. He decided that he would only observe the past and future, solemnly swearing never to interfere.
Years passed, Obsidia slowly regained its original shape. Emilia's memory forever etched in the city's history as a benevolent nurse, and Oliver, now an old man, continued to explore different timelines. However, his perspective had changed with time; he viewed these trips as cautionary lessons, not opportunities for interference.
While peering into a timeline 500 years into the future, he saw Obsidia much advanced, regaining its previous fervor for inventions. He saw an annual event in Emilia's memory where inventors showcased their creations. In another timeline, 1000 years later, he saw the city fighting climate change with sustainable technological innovations. His heart swelled with pride at the city's resilience and potential.
Berated by several twisted timelines, finally, Oliver lived out his days peacefully. He chronicled his experiences and hid his Time Machine 'Kronos', but with one condition anyone who found it must adhere to the single most crucial rule - time was not to be altered; it was only to be observed.
After all, Oliver's tale was one of redemption, understanding, and above all, time. The fleeting nature of it, the variances it presents, and the fickle effect it has on our lives informed each step of Oliver's journey. His understanding of the binding effect of time became his legacy, a legacy that survives through generations, echoing throughout Obsidia even today.
