The Tale of The Glassmaker
In the quiet and serene village of Glasswaters, there lived an old glassmaker named Enoch. He was known for his elegance and precision in crafting the most beautiful glass figurines. None could match the spark in his creations. Every morning, he would sit at sunrise in front of red-hot furnace, beginning his daily work of crafting figurines that imitated life in a breathtakingly beautiful way.
One day, a wealthy merchant from the far-off city visited Glasswaters. Entranced by the aesthetics of Enoch's glass figurines, he gave Enoch a peculiar request: to create a life-size glass girl. Obsessed with the beauty of his work, Enoch accepted the request, oblivious of what life had its plans.
For days and nights, in the solitude of his quaint workshop, Enoch labored. He worked tirelessly, sculpting every detail with perfection. His old hands, scarred from the burns of the furnace, held a delicate command over the molten glass. As Enoch was about to finish, a swift cold breeze blew over, turning the still molten glass girl opaque.
At the very moment, the glass girl blinked. To Enoch's astonishment, the glass girl had come alive and stood in all her glory, radiating an ethereal light. Bewildered, he named her Sapphira, after the sapphire blue gaze in her eyes. He protected her deed, fearing the wrath of the townsfolk against such an unnatural occurrence.
As the seasons changed, Enoch and Sapphira developed a tender father-daughter relationship. He taught Sapphira about nature, art, and life, just as he would school a human child. At her creator's guidance, she even learned to imitate the art of glassmaking to perfection, an unforeseen feat for a being of her kind.
Meanwhile, the merchant kept sending messages demanding his order. Feeling protective, Enoch refused to send Sapphira away. The merchant, enraged by the delay, decided to visit the village once again.
Upon arrival, the merchant was taken aback by the sight of the living glass girl. Seized by greed, he decided to take her forcefully. A brawl ensued, and in the chaotic scramble, Sapphira was shoved against the wall. The entire room fell eerily silent as she shattered into a million shiny bits.
The sight of Sapphira laying shattered on the floor brought Enoch to his knees. With tears in his eyes, he picked up every tiny piece of glass and tried to fit them together. However, it was a vain effort. The once vibrant glass girl was replaced by her befitting replica, a life-sized glass figurine of a girl.
The merchant, realizing the chaos he stirred, fled from the scene, leaving the village of Glasswaters forever. And the villagers mourned the tale of the shattered glass girl and the lonely old man, a tale that echoed in the hearts for generations.
As for Enoch, he stopped the art of glassmaking, making Sapphira his final creation. Until his last breath, he held the hope of seeing the flicker of life in the glass figurine he once called his daughter.
The passing years couldn't fade the memory of the glass girl who lived in the hearts of Enoch and the villagers. Forever was she remembered as Sapphira, the miracle of the Glasswaters.
