The Sword that Chooses its Master

In a small, quaint village perched atop a hill, there lived a humble blacksmith named Alden. Alden was renowned across the neighboring towns for his unparalleled skills and his chivalrous nature. His anvil lawfully echoed all day, shaping the finest steel into gleaming tools and majestic weaponry.
One day, as Alden was engaged in his craft, a mysterious old woman walked into his forge, holding an unremarkable piece of metal. The woman was unknown to the villagers and her sudden appearance intrigued Alden. The woman presented the metal slab to Alden and pleaded, 'Please, Sir, I beseech you to forge me a sword from this metal. It is my last relic of an earlier time.'
Intrigued, Alden agreed. He could tell there was something unique about the metal, but he brushed it off as mere fancy. As he hammered away, the slab transformed into a splendid sword, unlike any he had ever made. It was lightweight yet sturdy, and gleamed brilliantly even in the dull light of the forge.
The old woman thanked Alden profusely, leaving an upholstery of gold coins for his service. As she turned to leave, she paused and turned her opaque eyes to Alden, 'Remember, the sword chooses its master, it doesn't serve, it protects.' These puzzling words were etched deeply in Alden's mind.
Months passed, but the blacksmith couldn't forget the old woman and her cryptic words. The prosperity from the gold had improved the status of Alden's family, yet a shadow of unrest loomed over him. Until one day, when his village faced a formidable danger - a ferocious dragon had appeared, breathing fire and havoc. The villagers were terrified and felt defenseless against the fearsome creature.
Alden decided to confront the beast using the weapons he had crafted diligently over the years. However, even his best creations faltered against the dragon's wrath. Dejected and spent, Alden remembered the magical sword he had created for the old woman.
Realizing the meaning of her words, Alden set out to find the mysterious woman. After an arduous journey, he found the old woman living in a secluded hut in the heart of the forest. Explaining his plight, Alden implored her to lend him the magical sword. The old woman smiled, a knowing gleam in her eyes, 'I had been awaiting your arrival, Alden. The sword has chosen its worthy master.' She handed him the sword, and its luminescent gleam filled Alden with newfound courage.
Upon returning to the village, Alden faced the dragon. Empowered by the magical sword, he banished the malevolent creature, saving his village from its reign of terror. The sword, light and responsive, acted of its volition, shielding Alden from the monster's fiery breath, proving the truth in the old woman's words.
The villagers celebrated Alden's bravery with joyous fanfare. He was loved and respected even more for his courage and selflessness. The mysterious sword became a symbol of hope and safety for the villagers. Alden lived out his days revered as the hero who protected his people, aided by the ever loyal, magical sword.
