The Sword in The Etched Stone

In an era where magic and mysticism were more than tales spun by the fire, there existed a kingdom known as Evedon. It had been a land of peace and prosperity until the untimely death of King Arron, leaving no heir behind. His death sparked the rage of four powerful lords, each claiming the right to the throne. As the kingdom spiraled into chaos, a prophecy whispered through the winds echoed. 'Only true power will release the sword, and only the rightful king will wield it.'
The sword was of legend and lore, encapsulated firmly in an etched stone situated at the heart of Evedon. For centuries, nobles and knights attempted to unleash the silvered blade, but all efforts were futile.
Among the lords was Orville, the most feared. His strength was only outmatched by his ambition, and his kingdom, Westercoast, the most potent of the others. Orville, taken by the prophecy's allure, made his way to Evedon. He grasped the handle of the mystical weapon, pulling with all his might. Still, the sword didn't yield.
Next came the wealthy Lord Mandarin of Easthaven; thinking maybe wealth could sway the legend, he showered the stone with gold and precious gems. However, the stone stayed stubborn and sword unyielding. Frustrated, he returned to his kingdom.
Northwind's lady Sybilla, known for her wisdom and communication with mystical creatures, tried her luck. She whispered ancient incantations and presented rare artifacts but to no avail. The stone remained etched, and the sword locked.
Finally, the turn came for the young Loras of the Southern Marshes. Unlike the others, Loras was neither mighty nor affluent. He had a tender heart, a gentle soul, and leading qualities, making him loved by his people. He laid his hands on the sword, and to everyone's surprise, the sword glowed and released itself. The crowd erupted in cheer. The prophecy indeed rang true! He was the rightful king.
However, his reign came with resistance. The other Lords, envious and power-hungry, refused to submit to a king of such 'low stature.' Battle lines were drawn, and war was imminent. King Loras, not a warrior but a pacifist at heart, did not want his kingdom stained with bloodshed. He proposed a contest to the others, saying, 'The king isn't he who spills most blood, but he who's loved most by his people.'
He offered them three challenges designed not to test their strength or wealth, but their ability to rule wisely and justly. Reluctantly, the Lords agreed. They faced tasks like providing food during the crops' failure, finding a peaceful solution to villagers' disputes, and devising a plan to protect their kingdom from invasions.
One by one, they failed, exposing their lust for power and disregard for their people while Loras, through his intelligence, compassion, and cleverness, passed all the challenges. His efforts led to a strengthened kingdom, united by unwavering respect and love for their king.
The other Lords, humbled by their defeat, pledged their loyalty to King Loras. His reign brought on an era of peace and unity that Evedon had never known. And thus came to pass the prophecy of the Sword in The Etched Stone, and the kingdom lived under King Loras's rule, happily and peacefully ever after.
