The Star Painter and the Silent Songbird

Once upon a time, in a world bisected into perpetual daylight on one side and eternal night on the other, there was a painter named Selene who lived in the realm of everlasting darkness. She was not an ordinary painter; she was the Star Painter, a person reborn every thousand years to fill the eternal black canvas above with stars. Her job was an integral part of the magic that kept the balance between day and night, known and unknown, seen and unseen.
Selene was taught the ancient technique of painting stars by her predecessor. She would grind moon dust, mix it with meteor shavings, and apply the luminescent concoction on her canvas – the sky. With her skillful fingers, she would render iridescent galaxies, constellations, and whimsical shooting stars. It was a silent and solitary task, but it brought Selene immense joy.
In the other half of the world, the realm of perpetual daylight, lived Aurelius, a songbird with no voice. Unlike his colorful and cheery peers, Aurelius couldn't utter a single note. Isolated and alone, he spent his days flying high to the edge that bordered day and night, the frontier where the sun's brightness was subdued by the tranquil darkness.
One day, as Selene was heating a batch of moon dust, she saw a tiny figure approaching from the sun's glaring edge. As it came closer, she recognized the visitor: it was the silent songbird. Aurelius, curious and unfearing, landed on Selene's windowsill, watching her work with sparkling eyes.
In that moment, a bond formed between the two solitary beings. Every night, Aurelius would fly to Selene's house, and silently, they'd work together – Selene with her star painting and Aurelius with his companionable presence. Despite the silence, their friendship was profound; a companionship that spoke volumes without speaking at all.
Then one day, the inevitable happened. Selene, being a human, reached the end of her life cycle. The day of her final painting came. As Selene lifted her brush to the night sky, with Aurelius sitting on her shoulder, she felt a pang of sorrow sweep across her heart. The final star was a splendid one, painted with all the love and passion she'd gathered over the years. As she finished, she turned towards Aurelius, smiled, and drew her last breath.
Aurelius, feeling the loss of his friend, let out the most melodious song ever heard. The song was so pure, so heartbreaking, it reached the heavens, causing the stars to shimmer more vibrantly. Even though he was a creature of the day, the realm of perpetual darkness was stirred by his soulful melody.
As his song ended, a miracle occurred. From Selene's lifeless body, a vortex of twinkling lights emerged. They swirled around her and shot upwards, fading into the canvas she'd devoted her life to. Each light formed new stars, filling the sky with constellations that hadn't been there before. Aurelius, watching in awe, saw one of the stars glowing more luminously than the rest. He knew it was Selene.
From that night onward, Aurelius carried on Selene's legacy. Every night, he would fly to her house, look up at the sky, and sing. His voice would echo through the realm, reaching Selene, now a star herself. Just like when they first bonded, it was still a silent and solitary task, but it brought Aurelius an immense sense of peace. Their friendship, after all, had brought both of them the companionship they'd so long craved, and now, transcended even their worldly existences.
