The Silver Pen

Jacob had always been fascinated by the written word. When his parents presented him with a unique silver pen on his fifteenth birthday, he treated it like a piece of treasure. Little did he know then, that this silver pen was indeed enchanted. Every night, before going to bed, Jacob would jot down a beautiful story filled with magical creatures, daring heroes and princesses in his notebook. The following morning, the written words would have vanished, making way for another fresh tale. But, everyone in his dreams appeared as the characters from his previous night's narration. Places described in the tales would materialize in his living city, blending reality and fiction eerily yet splendidly. Never did the boundary between dream and reality blur as it did during these episodes.
Jacob wrote about a daring pirate one night, and the following day, he saw the pirate digging for buried treasure in the local park. When his school passed an old manor, it had transformed into a castle overnight, following a story about a long lost royal lineage. Jacob found this magical, but also terrifying as he became aware of its tremendous power. If someone else were to find this pen, the possibilities were endless - and potentially catastrophic.
One day, Jacob's worst fear came to pass. A local bully, Raul, found out about his magical pen and threatened to tell everyone unless Jacob handed the pen over to him. Left with no other alternative, Jacob grudgingly gave his treasured pen to Raul.
The next day, the city was in chaos. Grotesque monster-like creatures roamed the streets, and eerie castles replaced modern buildings. Raul had let the power go to his head, using it to play out his darkest fantasies. Shaken by the sight of his beloved city turned into a ghoul's paradise, Jacob decided he had to take the pen back.
Summoning all his courage, Jacob entered Raul's monstrous reality. He knew Raul's favourite location - an old attic where he often escaped to free his mind. The pen would be there. On arrival, the scenario was worse than he ever could have imagined. But Jacob’s determination did not falter. A fierce struggle ensued, and finally, Jacob managed to snatch the pen from Raul’s grasp.
Breathing heavily and with his heart pounding, Jacob wrote the most important story of his life. His silver pen danced across the pages, constructing a narrative full of bravery and integrity amidst darkness and corruption. He wrote about how his city came back to its original form, erasing every grotesque addition Raul had implemented, and how everyone forgot the horrors they had witnessed and suffered.
Exhausted, Jacob fell into a deep sleep, holding his silver pen tightly. When he woke up, the chaos was gone. His city was as it had been, and the danger was now a thing of past. No one remembered anything about Raul's reign. Relieved, he looked at his notebook. His story was there, word for word. The pen had lost its magic, but it had served its purpose. And Jacob had learnt that words held more magic and power than any enchanted object could ever possess.
