The Shimmering Tear of The Moon
Many eons ago when mankind was just a speck on the face of the earth, the moon, our neighborhood satellite, was a bustling hub of supernatural beings and divine deities. It was a pearl-white orb that glistened in the cryptic infinity of the cosmos, nurturing the gifts of the universe. Living in the moon was a young maiden named Lunara, the daughter of the Moon Goddess, Selene. She had sparkling silver hair, eyes like the azure sky, and she wore a bewitchingly nebulous gown that twinkled with tiny stains of cold, blue moonlight.
Lunara lived a lonely life. Her existence was an eternal prison of isolation, as her mother forbade her from leaving the moon. Selene's heart hid a profound fear for the safety of her beloved daughter, and she saw the earth, filled with unpredictable humans, as a dangerous place. However, Lunara harbored a quiet curiosity about the earth and its eccentric inhabitants.
One night, while observing the vast universe from her lunar balcony, Lunara spotted a gallant prince on earth. His name was Eos, and he ruled over the kingdom from dawn till twilight. Eos possessed an enchanting allure and a heart filled with boundless compassion. Lunara felt undeniably pulled towards this unfamiliar entity. Every night, she would watch him from her moonlit balcony, and her heart would flutter with strange emotions.
As days grew into weeks, the curiosity soon blossomed into a tender crush, and Lunara found herself falling helplessly in love with the terrestrial prince. Every night, she would weave dreams of meeting the prince, craving his warm touch, longing to be a part of his vibrant world. Unbeknownst to her, Selene could see the longing growing in her daughter's heart and witness her vivid dreams.
One moonlit night, Selene decided, as a cure for her daughter's yearning, to let Lunara descend to the earth in her ethereal form for a single night, albeit invisible to Eos. Excited yet terrified, Lunara accepted this chance. As she descended to earth, her heart pounded with anticipation.
Walking through the lush gardens of Eos' palace, she watched him from close. His twinkling eyes, his royal stature, his laughter that echoed around making the flowers bloom in cheer, everything enraptured Lunara. As the night deepened, Lunara, in an attempt to touch Eos, accidentally brushed his hand. Shocked by a sudden cold sensation, Eos observed his hand, but he could not see anything.
This incident left an unfathomable sadness lingering in Lunara's heart. Her tears formed shining stars that fell onto Earth, which the humans admired as crashing meteors. Back on the moon, Selene consoled Lunara, promising to find a way for her to be with Eos. Determined, Selene went to 'The Supernals'- the masters of Cosmic rules.
After a long discourse, The Supernals granted Lunara a human form but at a price. For every night spent on earth, a piece of the moon would crumble, and when the moon ceased to exist, Lunara would turn into stardust. To protect her daughter and save her home, Selene agreed to the terms. Thus, began the days of Lunara's short-lived joy and long-lasting agony.
Lunara’s presence revitalized the prince’s kingdom. Their love story became the songs of birds, the whispers of wind, and the lullabies of the old, etched forever in the history of mankind. However, simultaneously, each visit resulted in parts of the moon disappearing frightening the universe of what is to come.
Lunara and Eos celebrated their love, oblivious to the encroaching catastrophe. Day by day, Lunara was losing her home, inch by precious inch. The toll it took on her started to show. However, Eos remained ignorant of Lunara's plight.
On the penultimate day, when a small fragment of the moon was left, Lunara confessed her reality to Eos. He was devastated and pleaded with her to stop her visits. But, Lunara chose to spend the last night with her beloved, turning the final piece of the moon into a shimmering tear, which drifted onto the earth.
The next morning, the world woke up to the desolate sight of a moonless sky. Lunara, now a puff of stardust, whispered a sweet goodbye to her beloved before returning to the cold confines of the cosmos. Eos crumbled under the weight of her sacrifice and ordered a capsule to be made. Capturing the final tear of the moon, the tear was preserved, a symbol of a love that stood undefeated against cosmic adversities. And that is how mankind got its first pearl, ‘The Shimmering Tear of The Moon'.
