The Shimmering Light from the Lost Castle

Once, in the realm of Etoria, a kingdom ruled by the generous King Aldrich, resided in the shadow of the mysterious, lost castle - the Castle of Lore. Stories of ancient magic and unknown beings emanated from this ancient relic, which had stood abandoned since before anyone's memory began. The tale that follows revolves around a brave and keen young lad named Nicholas.
From a young age, Nicholas, an unparalleled blacksmith's apprentice and the only son of a humble baker, was enamored by the tales of the lost castle. He dreamt, one day, to unlock its secrets and claim the magical destiny that folklore promised to anyone who could decipher the castle's riddles.
One frosty morning, the villagers awoke to a mystical phenomenon. A radiant light shone brightly upon the castle, emanating from its highest tower, reaching even into the celestial skies. Except for Nicholas, the villagers perceived this with fear and dread.
Having waited for such a sign, Nicholas grabbed his bag, adorned his father's old protective armour, and marched towards the castle. The king, having heard of the young lad's audacity, ordered his most experienced knights to accompany Nicholas on his quest.
As they entered the castle, right away, it was evident to everyone that this place was unlike any they had seen before. Ornate carvings danced upon the walls, and a peculiar chill filled the air. The shimmering light, warm and inviting, guided them deep into the castle.
Through winding stairways and hidden corridors, they reached the tower. But there was no door, only an ancient inscription on the wall which read, 'The Enlightened is the Key'. The knights stared at each other blankly. The answer came not from the gallant knights but from Nicholas. His days spent learning from the village sage came to fruition as he realized the 'Enlightened' referred to the one who understood the castle's purpose and cherished its history.
Nervously, Nicholas approached the inscription and gently placed his hand on the stone; the wall crumbled, revealing the entrance to the tower.
Inside the tower, a magnificent staircase, spiralling into the golden, dazzling light, met them. As they ascended, each step revealed words, histories, and stories from Etoria. It was as if time itself had been woven into the fabric of this tower.
Finally, they arrived at the top—it was a sight that would leave even the stone-hearted in awe: inside a crystal case, surrounded by the never-ending light, lay an ancient book.
Nicholas reached out to touch the book; the moment his skin came into contact with the leather bound surface, a burst of energy sent the knights sprawling back. Unharmed, Nicholas opened the book; the text floated out, circling him, each word resonating with him. The book was a reservoir of magic, knowledge, and history. It was the heart of the Castle of Lore and the source of its magic. Nicholas had indeed found his magical destiny.
In the days which followed, Nicholas used the book's powers to turn Etoria into a beacon of peace and prosperity. People thronged to the village, drawn by the stories of the enlightened baker’s son who shone brighter than any castle ever could.
King Aldrich, in honor of Nicholas's bravery and wisdom, offered him a place in the council. And that's how Nicholas, the baker's son, became Nicholas the Enlightened, the shepherd of an era of enlightenment and magic.
