The Shadow and The Lantern

Once upon a time, in the tranquil village of Redford, nestled at the foot of a huge mountain range existed a mystery. Every night, when the clock chimed twelve, a ghostly shadow would appear, meandering through the quiet lanes, making way towards the ancient hilltop castle. This occurrence stirred fear amongst the villagers, who named it 'The Shadows of Midnight'.
Years passed by, and the curious tale faded into obscurity. Then, A young boy named Ernest moved to Redford with his intriguing tales of dragons, wizards, and magical artifacts.
One sultry afternoon, he heard the elderly in the park recounting the tale of 'The Shadows of Midnight'. Listening intently, Ernest resolved to unravel the mystery of the haunting shadow.
When the clock chimicked twelve, Ernest embarked on his nocturnal adventure. Armed with a rustic lantern inherited by his ancestors, admired for its magical properties, he waited eagerly. As foretold, a ghostly shadow emerged, winding its way towards the mountain.
Fearlessly, Ernest trailed behind it, gripping his lantern tightly. On reaching the castle, he saw the shadow disappear into the ground. Astonished, the young boy discovered a hidden trapdoor. With a pounding heart, he stepped into the unknown.
A winding staircase led to a forgotten tomb. As he descended, the shadow materialized again, lingering right before a cryptic inscription on the stone wall. Ernest, slowly approached, his lantern revealing the inscription, 'To awaken the slumber, a token of light is needed.’
Believing in the magic his lantern held, Ernest cautiously extended it towards the inscription. As its golden light washed over the words, the entire chamber quaked. Suddenly, the stone wall shifted aside revealing a gigantic dragon resting peacefully.
Ernest gasped; all his tales had never prepared him for the sight unfolding before his eyes. The dragon, awakened, rising majestically, bewildered by the presence of a child, asked in a thunderous voice, 'Who dares to wake me?'
Gathering his courage, Ernest explained his intent. The dragon, after a thoughtful silence, responded, 'I am Grymrock, cursed to live as a shadow till someone reveals my hidden lair. You, young lad, have lifted the curse and given me wings. As a token of gratitude, I grant you a simple wish.'
Ernest thought for a moment and said, 'I wish for happiness and prosperity for the people of Redford and that they never feel fear again.' Touched by his selfless request, Grymrock lifted his curse over the village, promising that it would thrive and its people will live in peace.
When Ernest exited the castle at dawn, people gasped in awe at the sight of Grymrock flying into the vast horizon. The villagers rejoiced, their fears replaced by delight and excitement. The tale of 'The Shadows of Midnight' transformed into the legend of 'The Lantern Bearer,' sung by every villager as they dwelled in happiness and prosperity beyond their wildest dreams. Among them, a boy named Ernest, smiled as he gently held his ancestral lantern closer, soaking in the magic of what just one night can accomplish, when filled with courage and kindness.
