The Secret of St. Hoffman Academy

In the heart of Vermont, cloistered in the dense woods, rested the prestigious St. Hoffman Academy, popularly known for its archaic architecture, excellent academic record and curious tales of the supernatural.
Aelita was a vibrant girl of 16, who entered this esteemed institution with an unquenched thirst for knowledge, not just academic, but also of the rumored otherworldly occurrences that took place after sundown. Her parents had warned her about it, but the allure of the unknown was too enticing for the young mind.
Aelita was allocated room number 117, rumored to be the epicenter of all supernatural happenings. Slightly terrified but more thrilled, she settled in. Her roommates, Emily and Sara, had already been residing there for a few weeks and had tales to share. Murmurs of strange nocturnal activities, objects moving and eerie sounds, sent chills down Aelita's spine, but her determination stayed undeterred.
The first night was silent. Days turned into weeks, yet nothing unusual happened. However, one fall evening, as a cold wind blew through the ancient pines, Aelita woke up to a somber melody being played on piano. Startled, they followed the music which led them to the old, rarely-used music room.
The room was cold, the only light being the moonlight seeping in through the windows. In the center was an ancient grand piano, its keys moving rhythmically with the tune. There was no one, yet the music echoed the room. Petrified, the girls ran back to their room.
This terrifying encounter made Aelita more resolute in her quest for uncovering the truth. She began researching the academy's history, exploring old records, yearbooks, journals, anything and everything that could reveal who or what was haunting the corridors. Slowly, the pieces began coming together.
She discovered Mary Hoffman, one of the early students of the academy, an exceptional pianist who tragically died in a fire that ravaged her home. Distraught over her untimely demise, her spirit was rumored to have returned to the academy, yearning for her interrupted life. The musically gifted ghost of Mary was believed to be the immortal pianist.
Aelita's discovery was validated when a visit to the charred remains of Mary’s home led to the recovery of an old, half-burnt music sheet. The notes inscribed matched the melody they heard that eerie night – it was Mary’s composition.
As their encounters with the ghostly pianist increased, Aelita decided it was time for closure. Collaborating with the music department, she masterfully completed Mary's unfinished composition, intending to perform it at the annual winter gala, hoping to appease Mary's restless spirit.
The day arrived and Aelita, with a pounding heart and shaky hands, seated herself at the grand piano in front of the entire academy. As she progressed through the piece, the environment became eerily silent. The music ended on a high pitch, followed by a deafening silence and then erupted into applause.
That night, they heard the piano for the last time. As expected, it was playing Mary’s composition, but now in complete harmony. The next morning was strangely quiet. The air felt lighter, the tension eased and the academy breathed a sigh of relief
Aelita had done it. She had outwitted her fears, uncovered a mystery and brought peace to the restless spirit of Mary Hoffman. Her courage and determination not just changed the fate of the academy but gave a new meaning to life for her and everyone on campus.
The tale of Aelita's bravery sung through the corridors of St. Hoffman for years to come. The once-dreaded Room 117 was now a parable of courage and Room 117 and Aelita became the legends of St. Hoffman Academy.
