The Secret Life of the Stone

In a world unseen and unfathomable by humans, there lived a white marble stone named Marble. Marble was not just an ordinary stone; he had a secret life beyond the comprehension of the human realm. He inhabited a world teeming with life, a world humans perceive as non-living. He had friends, he had foes, and he had a purpose.
Marble was born inside the belly of a great mountain, near a human village. He was shaped into a sphere by Mother Earth herself, who whispered to him ancient tales of the cosmos.
The days of his youth were spent at peace, nestled against his brothers and sisters in the calm bosom of nature. But one fateful day, a human discovered Marble and his kin. Fascinated by his pearly shine and perfect round shape, the human took him away. Marble was sad and terrified, but he remembered what Mother Earth had told him, 'Change is the only constant, my child.'
The human carried Marble to his home, where he used him in games. Days turned into weeks and weeks into months, Marble saw other spheres like him, made of rubber, plastic, and even wood around him. They would be kicked, tossed, struck, and at the end of the day, forgotten.
In this new life, Marble met Copper, a small coin. They quickly forged a bond, finding solace in each other's company. Copper told Marble stories about her life before coming to the human world. Together they yearned to be back with Mother Earth and their kin, free from the erratic temporal whims of humans.
Then came a day of tremendous upheaval.
The human decided to move to a new house. In the rush of moving out, Marble was left behind. In his solitude, he missed Copper and the joy their company brought. But digits of days went by, and Marble learned to live in harmony with the elements. He claimed the garden as his home, basking in the sunlight by day and studying the cosmos by night.
Years passed. Humans grew old, and their children left home. Marble grew to enjoy the solace. He observed ants’ purposeful routes, watched the changing seasons, and listened to the whispering wind. He learned to appreciate his isolation and the wisdom that loneliness imparts.
But Mother Earth had more plans for him. One chilly winter night, Marble felt a sudden jolt, and before he knew anything, he found himself sinking beneath the soil. Terrified, he called out to Mother Earth, who gently reminded him, 'Change is the only constant, my child.'
Days turned into years, and Marble found himself deep inside the earth, in a world unseen by humans. But it was not the silent world one might imagine; it thrummed with life. He met ancient rocks who spoke of times before human existence. He met coal being pressured into diamond. He absorbed the stories and the wisdom from the ground beneath.
One day, the ground shook, tremors running through the deep chambers. Marble felt a pull towards the surface. He was rising, and he knew he was cycling back to the human world. Once again, he remembered Mother Earth’s words.
Reemerging into the world of light and color and sounds, Marble found himself in a whole new era. The human village had transformed into a bustling city. On a newly constructed building, a young boy found Marble with sparkling eyes.
Marble, the white marble stone, was ready for another adventure in this new world. He carried with him the wisdom from the ground beneath, the tales from the world unseen by humans, ready for new learnings and experiences. And he knew that no matter where life took him, he would always remember Mother Earth’s wisdom that 'Change is the only constant.'
