The Secret Door of Elmsworth Manor
Over one hundred years ago, in the heart of a picturesque town sat the grand Elmsworth Manor. The Elmsworth family, its owners, were respected for their valour, and adored for their benevolence. The Manor, with its winding staircases and antique relics provoked countless rumours and tales among the townsfolk. However, the most captivating tale was of a secret door, hidden for centuries.
In the great halls of Elmsworth Manor, lauded Sir Samuel Elmsworth. He was a gallant man, esteemed for his chivalry and kindness. Sir Samuel dwelt with his young daughter Matilda, a vibrant girl with fiery red hair. The townsfolk loved Matilda; her exuberance and kindness echoed her father's.
Matilda was fond of exploring the Manor’s countless rooms, discovering buried secrets of her ancestors. One day, she stumbled upon an ancient book depicting the tale of a secret door, hidden somewhere within the Manor. The book mentioned a treasure, protected behind the door, waiting to reveal itself to the worthy one.
Matilda was enthralled. Her curious spirit surged with an irresistible urge to unlock the secret door and its treasure. She shared her discovery with her father, who, despite initial reservations, succumbed to her exhilaration.
The search commenced. Every day, father and daughter, after their routine activities, explored the vast mansion, tapping walls, scrutinizing painting, searching every corner. Despite many fruitless expeditions, they continued, till one evening, when they heard a faint echo behind the library wall.
They carefully examined the wall and discovered a small hidden switch behind an old portrait. With a heavy sigh and nervous excitement, Sir Samuel flicked the switch. Suddenly, with a soft groan, a portion of the wall slid open revealing a hidden passage. The heartbeats quickened. They had indeed found the secret door.
The passage was narrow and dark, slightly damp and filled with the scent of old age and mystery. As they tread carefully, they finally entered a room that glittered under the torch’s light. The room was filled with gold, jewels, and rare artefacts, an undeniable treasure.
Amid the gold was an ancient yet pristine, golden armour, encrusted with precious jewels. Beside it, lay a scroll. It read, 'The power is not in the treasure, but in the heart of its possessor.'
Sir Samuel and Matilda looked at each other. Their joy of discovering the treasure was outmatched by the wisdom they had gained. They understood the armour was bestowed upon a deserving heart, the one driving the wearer to protect Elmsworth Manor and its people.
The news spread across the town. People congratulated them, however, beneath the joy, stirred rumours of greed and envy. Spotting the encroaching danger, Sir Samuel decided to protect the treasure, and to honour their ancestors’ intentions, he donned the golden armour.
Roused by the Manor's glory, neighbouring rogues attacked the Elmsworth Manor. However, met by the formidable Sir Samuel in the golden armour, they were thwarted. Under the protection of golden armour, the Manor continued to flourish and peace was restored.
The tale of the secret door and the golden armour became a legend, passed down through the generations. The Elmsworth Manor, the secret door, and the golden armour, henceforth stood as symbols of courage, kindness, and wisdom, bound by the worthy heart of the Elmsworths.
