The Sapphire of Encriana
Once upon a time, in the far-off magical kingdom of Encriana, there was a sapphire so beautiful, its blue radiance could be seen in the darkest of nights. It was known throughout the lands as the Sapphire of Encriana, and legends claimed it held inexplicable powers.
King Ehud, the ruler of Encriana, kept the sapphire locked away. It was his ancestors who had found it within the Heart of Mount Encriar. It was considered a symbol of the King's divine right to rule, strengthening his sovereignty.
One day, the kingdom faced a grim crisis. Grain supplies dwindled, wells dried up, the livestock fell ill, and the commoners began to feel a crushing weight of hopelessness. Kind Ehud sought guidance from the kingdom's sage, who suggested that this calamity might be a result of a curse and that only the power of the Sapphire of Encriana could lift it.
Though sceptical, King Ehud was desperate. He ordered a grand ceremony in front of the Encriana Citadel, where the elderly sage performed an ancient ritual with the sapphire. As the sage lifted the sapphire high, its blue glimmer filled the starry sky, and a spectral light showered from above. It began to rain generously after years, filling up wells and nourishing the dried lands.
Believing their troubles were over, people rejoiced. But their joy was short-lived. Word of the sapphire's power spread across the kingdoms and reached the ears of Azog, the ruthless warlord of the Technor kingdom. Enslaved by his avarice, Azog set his eyes on the Sapphire of Encriana and ordered his armies to march towards King Ehud’s kingdom.
With Technor's forces descending upon them, King Ehud rallied his men and prepared for the impending onslaught. A fierce battle ensued at the outskirts of Encriana. King Ehud fought valiantly, but Technor's forces were overwhelming. As the day gave way to dusk, so did Encriana's brave defenders fall.
In this hour of despair, King Ehud made a desperate decision. With a few of his remaining knights, he rode to the citadel and brought forth the Sapphire of Encriana. As they prayed for their salvation, the sapphire once again shimmered with an extraordinary luminescence. A wave of ethereal energy released which passed through every single living being in the kingdom, giving them strength and kindling hope.
Revival ensued. The commoners, newfound strength coursing through their veins, fought back with such force that Azog's unstoppable army wavered. Within hours, the tables turned, and by dawn, the invaders were defeated.
News of King Ehud's victory over Azog spread, instilling fear in those who harboured ill intentions towards Encriana and its gem. King Ehud continued to rule his prosperous kingdom, and peace was restored in Encriana.
But King Ehud had learned his lesson. The precious Sapphire of Encriana was no longer a mere symbol of royal authority; it was a beacon of hope, a protector of peace. Although safely secured in the Citadel, the Sapphire's blue light often graced the night sky, a lighthouse guiding the hearts of the people, a testament to their resilience and unity.
The tale of the Sapphire of Encriana stands as a reminder that the beauty of a gem lies not just in its physical allure but also in the strength and unity it can foster amongst people in trying times. A lesson etched in the annals of many kingdoms and hearts till the end of days.
