The Rise of a Commoner
Once upon a time, in the resplendent kingdom of Ethiar, there lived a humble farmer named Eban. Raised in the heartland of the kingdom, he was known for his truthful nature, hard-working demeanor, and unwavering integrity. Although he was a commoner, he was recognized for his knowledge and wisdom.
The serene kingdom of Ethiar was ruled by a benevolent king named Rais. He was known for his passion for truth and justice throughout the kingdom. However, the king had no progeny and, therefore, no direct heir to the throne. The only person standing in line to be king after him was his conniving and pretentious nephew, Dain.
King Rais often held meetings with his subjects to ensure the prosperity and wellbeing of his kingdom. Eban would quietly observe these meetings and the proceedings, enhancing his understanding of politics. King Rais was intrigued by Eban's attentiveness and eventually invited him to become part of the court's discussions.
Unbeknownst to the people of Ethiar, there was a growing unease in the kingdom surrounding King Rais' health. He had grown old, and with age came afflictions. Upon realizing his health was detrimentally failing, King Rais knew he could no longer ignore the inevitability - someone had to take his place. As Rais contemplated over the question of his successor, he thought about Eban.
Meanwhile, Eban continued to show immense wisdom in managing the affairs of the kingdom. He resolved several disputes fairly, guided numerous citizens with his unique wisdom, and earned the respect and love of the kingdom's folk.
One fateful day, King Rais collapsed during a court meeting. The whole court was in an uproar, but Eban remained calm and instructed the court medic to attend to the King. In the midst of panic and fear, Eban's leadership qualities shone, and he managed to maintain order in the court.
King Rais, on his death bed, announced something that shook the core of the kingdom even more than his illness. He named Eban as his successor instead of his nephew Dain. This was not well received by the members of the royal family, who considered Eban a commoner and unworthy of the throne.
Following King Rais' demise, Eban ascended the throne amidst protest from the royal family but cheers from the common people. They loved Eban for his honesty and empathy. His humble beginnings only made him more endearing to the general populace.
Dain, full of resentment, tried numerous ways to provoke an uprising against Eban. Realizing that he could not turn the citizens against him, he plotted to assassinate Eban. However, the plan backfired as Dain's intentions got exposed. Eban forgave Dain, however, exiled him to ensure no further threats to the kingdom's peace.
Eban went on to rule Ethiar for many years, transforming it into an even more prosperous and peaceful kingdom. Each of his decisions was influenced by his experiences as a commoner, making him the most loved king Ethiar ever had. Ultimately, he passed on the throne to another commoner of proven integrity, establishing a lasting tradition for the future of Ethiar.
Eban’s tale has been told over generations, a demonstration of the fact that nobility does not always spring from birthright but is often nurtured through actions and character. While he started as a humble farmer, Eban ended as a legendary king, leaving an unforgettable mark on Ethiar's history.
