The Painter’s Love

Once upon a time, in a small village nestled amidst towering hills and wildflowers, lived a skilled painter named Arthur. His dwelling was a quaint little cottage, squashed in between the vibrant hues of nature. The town was idyllic, and it had a tranquil river flowing down, which served as a mirror reflecting the beauty of the town itself.
Arthur was not like other villagers. He did not participate in farming or livestock rearing, he did not sell goods at the market. He had picked up a brush in his younger days, and ever since, the love for colors had not let him go. But, there was something unusual about Arthur’s work. Each of his paintings encompassed a story. Stories which were left untold and unexpressed. Arthur communicated tales of love, gory wars, tender friendships, fierce storms and battles of life, all with his strokes.
One day, while Arthur was engrossed in his new canvas, depicting the poignant story of lost love, an elegantly dignified lady dressed in a rich gown walked into his studio. Her eyes twinkled with intent. She was Mariana, the daughter of the mayor, known for her beauty throughout the village.
She looked around the room, every painting was a story she wanted to delve into. However, her gaze halted at the canvass Arthur was currently attending. The scene of a knight falling for a common maiden, their love, their union and his departure for a deadly battle that swallowed him whole. The love lost forever in the tide of duty.
Arthur narrated the story of his painting and Mariana was moved. She had always adored his work, but Arthur's stories within paintings touched her soul. That day she commissioned Arthur to draw a painting that would tell not a tragic, but a mesmerizing love story.
Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and slowly, the canvas was shaping into life. Their friendship blossomed with time, turning into a deep affection. The painting of the mesmerizing love story began to mirror their own. The silent admiration had now erupted into whispered feelings of love.
Just as Arthur was about to complete the canvas, tragedy struck. Mariana's father, alarmed by his daughter's relationship with an ordinary painter, decided to marry her off to a rich man in a distant village. Heartbroken but resigned, Mariana had no choice but to obey her father.
The village was wrapped in gloominess when Mariana left, leaving behind the unfinished story of her canvas. Arthur was lost, his brushes felt foreign, his colors unbearably gloomy. Then one day, he picked up a brush and completed the painting. When the villagers saw it, they wept, for it was the most beautiful yet heartbreaking piece Arthur had ever created.
In the grandeur of the royal mansion, Mariana received a package. It was Arthur's painting - a grand love story shown in its full bloom on canvas, with lovers separated by a wall of societal norms. Her eyes welled up, and she knew she still loved Arthur. In the silence of the night, Mariana escaped the mansion and ventured back to the village.
The dawn of the next day bore witness to a miracle. Mariana and Arthur, once separated by circumstances, were now united by their love and the story on the canvas. Arthur picked up his brush again, this time to paint a new chapter, their love story. The painting that Arthur completed became an eternal symbol of their union, a testimony of love overcoming every barrier.
The story of Arthur and his beloved Mariana thus became the town’s legend. And for generations after, every painting was treasured not just for its vibrant colors or detailed characters, but for the beautiful, compelling stories they told.
