The Myth of the Forgotten Island
Once upon a time, in a land far removed from human habitation, there was an island named Enydrial. Enydrial was not just another island; it was a realm of magic and enchantment, populated by creatures both wondrous and strange. Yet, the folks who inhabited the mainland had forgotten the island due to their self-induced blindness towards magic. Few knew of it, fewer dared to go, and no one returned from it to tell the tale. Here, I share the story of Enydrial as narrated by an ancient seafarer.
The protagonist of our story was a young lad named Aodhan. As a curious and adventurous child, Aodhan was never one to believe the tales of adults. His hunger for the unknown always got him into trouble, but this time it took him on a voyage of self-discovery. Aodhan had heard plenty about the island of Enydrial and its fascinating creatures from his grandfather, the one who was once a brave seafarer.
One day, Aodhan found his grandfather's dusty old map in the attic. According to the map, a straight course due north would lead him to Enydrial. The sight of the map ignited Aodhan's adventurous spirit. He decided to embark on the risky journey to the forgotten island by himself, eager to revisit his grandfather's tales.
Aodhan set sail on the vast gray ocean on a breezy morning with a heart full of courage and dreams. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months. Even while battling loneliness and treacherous sea storms, Aodhan's spirit remained unbowed.
Finally, after navigating through the harshest of waters, Aodhan's continual sight of blue was interrupted by a silhouette of an island on the horizon. As he approached closer, he realized he had reached the enchanting island of Enydrial. From its beautiful aura, one could easily tell it was a place of magic and mystery.
Enydrial was home to spellbinding beauty and magical creatures that were believed to exist only in myths: sparkling elves, helpful gnomes, gentle giants and even mighty Dragons. The island was soaked in magic and everything single thing in there buzzed with energy unknown to humanity.
Seen from afar, the island might have seemed desolate; yet the closer Aodhan got, the more he felt like an invisible communion. The criaturas welcomed him warmly. Aodhan spent days with them, learning about their kind, observing their traits and admiring their self-sustaining community.
In Enydrial, the four elements, Fire, Water, Air, and Earth, lived in harmony and spoke to one another. The dragons controlled the fire, water nymphs nurtured the underwater life, air spirits maintained the winds and weather, while giant earth beings kept the land flourishing.
While gaining wisdom and understanding in this magical island, Aodhan's curiosity again took flight upon hearing the legend of the coveted 'Star of Enydrial'. This relic was a powerful gem harnessing the energy of elementals, believed to have astonishing abilities, stored within Enydrial's deepest cave guarded by the eldest dragon.
The young lad decided to seek this magical gem to fulfill his innate curiosity. Aodhan managed to reach the cave and outwit the eldest dragon using his knowledge about dragons gleaned from his Grandfather's tales. As he touched the 'Star of Enydrial', a surge of energy flowed within. The gem bestowed upon him the ability to converse with the elementals, creating a bridge between mankind and the magic kind.
Thus, Aodhan became the link between the humans of his village and the magic-ridden island of Enydrial. In the coming years, Aodhan trained many youngsters in his village who went on to represent the bridge between Enydrial and humanity, enriching both domains with their unique perspectives.
Today, as the ancient seafarer ended his tale, he revealed his identity — he was none other than Aodhan. He hoped his tale was a reminder for humanity not to sever their connection with magic, mystery and the unknown, but to preserve the wonder of the forgotten island, Enydrial, in the annals of their memory.
