The Miracle of Glitter Lake
Once upon a time, in the idyllic meadows of the Enchanted Valley, nestled between the majestic Glass Mountains to the north and the opulent Emerald Forest to the south, lay a small village of Merion. The inhabitants of Merion were known to be hardworking, amicable folks, leading their simple lives in harmony with nature. However, a unique radiance of joy enveloped them, distinctive to the other settlements. The source, you ask? The breathtakingly beautiful Glitter Lake which lied at the heart of the village. The Glitter Lake, as its name suggests, sparkled with an inexplicable ethereal luminescence, especially under the moonlit sky. It was not just a waterbody but a link to the village’s history, culture, and existence itself. However, it bore a secret, known only to the villagers and to the wise one among them in particular, Elder Madoc, the Guardian of the Lake.
One would marvel at Elder Madoc’s vitality and vigour despite his old age. Everyone in Merion held him in high regard, owing not only to his wisdom but the legend associated with him; the tale of the Glitter Lake's miracle. Elder Madoc was an ordinary boy once, like any other in Merion, putting in daily hard work in their family farm and relishing Mother Nature’s bliss. However, destiny had cosmic plans for Little Madoc.
One wretched year famine struck the harmonious land. The sky withheld its blessings; fields grew desolate, and drying Glitter Lake reflected the sorrowful plight of Merion. It was then, one night under silvery moonlight, the lake spoke to Madoc; a spectral voice echoing in his mind, in tones so gentle it was like a lullaby, yet so profound it vibrated in his soul. The dying lake beseeched Madoc for help. The request stumped Little Madoc, but he couldn't deny the plea.
Madoc spent the coming days seeking aid, pushing himself and the villagers to do the unthinkable; carry water from the stream at Glass Mountains, through the treacherous paths of the Emerald Forest to revive the lake. His relentless conviction finally moved the villagers, the fear of an unknown journey weighed less than the frightening despair reflected in the Glitter Lake. Thus began a heroic journey of carrying life in crystalline waters to the heart of their existence.
Back in the dying lake, time seemed to have stood still. With each moonlit night, the spectral voice of the lake weaved tales of how it was not just a water body but a magical entity; the ancient essence of brightness from the stars that fell on the land, breathing life into the valley. Every rainfall re-energizing and spreading its magic across the land. The tales added an element of time-pressed urgency on Madoc. Their journey was grueling, marked with perils but bound by hope and faith.
With the last bucket of water emptied into the Glitter Lake, the parched land shook, the mystical lake rippled as though taking in the essence of life restored and in the silence of the moment, laughter echoed across the valley – it was the miraculous voice of the lake. Rain showered from a suddenly gathered dark cloud; life echoed throughout the valley again, radiating happiness that mirrored in the sparkling lake, now returned to its former glory.
From that day, Madoc became Elder Madoc, the Guardian of the Lake. A miracle-worker he was indeed, but Elder Madoc always said it was the lake’s magic and will of the villagers that truly saved the day. A boy became a legend mingled in the progressive chapters of Merion’s history. His tale stood as a beacon of hope, reflecting in the eternal glittering neon-blue lake, reliving its miraculous tale with every moonlit glow. The tale spoke of faith, the value of collective will, and of magic; the magic surrounding us in all possible forms, only if we believed in it.
