The Magical Coin of Dolores
Once upon a time, in the quiet town of Dolores, lived a kind-hearted lad named Gabriel. A humble breadwinner, Gabriel spent most of his days weaving exquisite straw hats. Aside from his highly-thoughtful persona, it was Gabriel’s craftsmanship and impeccable versatility that made him an icon in Dolores.
One day, while carefully adding finishing touches to a particularly intricate straw hat, Gabriel found a mysterious coin, shiny and tinged with green, tucked underneath the straws he used. Upon closer scrutiny, he realized it was an ancient coin known for its tales of granting wishes within the town’s folklore.
Feeling a fluttering sensation in his chest, Gabriel whispered, 'I wish Dolores will experience prosperity it hasn't seen before.' He tossed the coin into the mystical Old Willow Pond and went home, with a hint of curiosity lingering in his eyes.
The next morning, the town of Dolores awoke to a glorious scene—the previously wilted crops had sprouted an abundance of fruits overnight, and the village's fountain, dried for years, was now overflowing with sparkling water. As days passed, Dolores saw a surge in its vitality with no signs of disease, drought, or distress.
This unexpected turn of events did not go unnoticed by Felix, a wealthy merchant from a neighboring town. Intrigued by Dolores’s sudden prosperity, he made a clandestine visit and found out about Gabriel and the magical coin through hushed whispers and local tales.
Driven by greed, Felix marched to Dolores, proposing an extravagant deal to Gabriel. In exchange for the magical coin, Gabriel was offered a lifetime supply of straws to weave and a sum of money so immense that he would never need to work another day in his life. Though Felix kept his intentions hidden, Gabriel sensed his greed.
Swallowing his apprehension, Gabriel agreed with a condition - Felix should wish for peace, happiness, and prosperity to continue in Dolores. Felix, desperate for the coin, hastily agreed. Gabriel then led Felix to the Old Willow Pond and gave him an ordinary, dull coin, convincing him that it was the powerful, magical coin.
As Felix eagerly tossed the coin into the Pond, Gabriel secretly made the wish himself, 'Let the prosperity of Dolores continue, and let Felix learn the cost of greed.' Unaware of the switch, Felix left, expecting prosperous fortunes to follow him home.
Days turned to weeks, and Felix’s greed did not bear him any fruit. His own village, instead of flourishing, went into bouts of acute distress - crops failed, businesses were closed, and people lived in misery. Felix soon realized his error, that he had been tricked and paid the price for his greed.
Meanwhile, inspired by Gabriel's deeds, the townsfolk of Dolores practiced selflessness and generosity. Their town continued to flourish, standing as a beacon of harmony, prosperity, and peace. The tale of Gabriel's wisdom and Felix’s greed passed down through generations, reminding everyone of the power of selflessness and the consequences of avaricious intentions.
As for Gabriel, he continued weaving his hats, living a content life, knowing he had protected his town and taught a valuable lesson to others - that true prosperity lies in sharing with others and not in hoarding for oneself.
