The Magic Lantern and The Snowy Village
Once upon a time, in a small snowy village named Bellevue, renowned for its beauty and tranquility, the villagers led simple lives. They were mostly reliant on farming and crafting, with love and harmony as their primary virtues. This tale unfolds the story of little Jeremy, who lived with his grandmother at the edge of Bellevue.
Jeremy was an ordinary 10-year-old boy with an extraordinary heart. He had a strong affection for stories - but not just any tales; he loved magical stories transmitted through generations. His grandmother, a spirited, good-natured old woman, often pulled stories from her chest full of tales to enchant Jeremy. The stories filled his mind with wonder and made his heart beat with anticipation of an adventure.
One day while Jeremy was rummaging through the attic, he found an old and rusty lantern. It looked ordinary, yet something about it captured Jeremy's imagination. He decided to light up the lamp. Suddenly, the lantern started shining in radiant colors. With a soft whisper, it asked for a wish. Caught by surprise, Jeremy, being the innocent and selfless boy he was, wished for the wellbeing and prosperity of his village.
To everyone's surprise, the next day, the village flourished with abundance. The fields were overflowing with fruits and vegetables, the streams filled rapidly with fresh water, people's crafts began turning into gold, and everyone's health improved. The villagers couldn’t comprehend what had happened overnight. It was a miracle beyond their understanding.
Meanwhile, Jeremy kept his encounter with the magical lantern a secret. He went back to it excited and happy about his wish coming true. This time, however, he made a little selfish wish. He wished to know all the magical stories in the world. The lantern, fulfilling his wish, filled his mind with tales from every corner of the earth.
Jeremy became highly knowledgeable. His wisdom and stories brought happiness and wisdom to progressive gatherings in the village. The villagers loved him. His grandmother was beyond proud yet, she soon noticed an unprecedented change in Jeremy.
Jeremy started spending most of his time alone. He began losing his innate joy and cheerfulness. The magic lantern had given him infinite tales, but it had stripped him of his childlike curiosity and imaginative mind.
His grandmother, perceptive and wise, soon discovered the lantern and the wishes Jeremy made. She realized the innocence of his wishes, and despite the good intentions, the adverse consequences it bore.
She told Jeremy, 'Magic could bring abundance, but it couldn't bring happiness. Happiness lies in working hard and achieving results, in anticipation and the joy of not knowing. It's your curiosity to hear new stories is what makes each tale magical. The magic lantern took that joy of unknown from you. And therefore, my dear, you feel sad. Remember, real magic lies in love, friendship, hard work, and patience.'
Hearing his grandmother's words, Jeremy realized his mistake. He understood the true meaning of his grandmother's wisdom. With the lantern's agreement, he wished everything to go back as it used to be. He kept the lantern safely in his attic, hoping no one else would fall for false magic again.
From that day forward, Jeremy grew up embracing real life, real magic. He shared the wisdom he received from his beloved grandmother with the rest of the village and he became the happiest storyteller that Bellevue had ever known.
