In the bustling, modern city of Tekburgh, everyone was perpetually engrossed in a race against time; everybody, that is, except for Riley. A humble janitor for Tekburgh's largest conglomerate, Astrolab Inc., Riley spent his days cleaning up after the brilliant scientists and engineers who shaped the world of tomorrow.
Riley loved to watch the mice in his lab. They were a part of the Genome Project funded by Astrolab. Kind-hearted Riley often conversed with the mice, ascribing them names, personalities, a complacent refuge from the blaring scientific jargon he pretended to understand.
One day, while cleaning, he stumbled upon a conversation about a lunar expedition to collect mysterious crystals believed to possess extraordinary energy capabilities. He learned about Astrolab's impending downfall due to a lack of funding and how these crystals could save the organization. The scientists referred to this problem as the 'Crisis of the Crystals.'
Additionally, they stressed their discontent over the spaceship's AI system, which was programmed with a mind of its own and was impossible to control – the 'Tempest.' A high-stakes mission with such a critical part unmanaged left everyone biting their nails.
