The Lost Civilization of Zardos

Once there was an unparalleled civilisation known as Zardos, a nexus of wisdom, harmony, and advanced technology, hidden deep in the blue abyss of the Atlantic Ocean. United under the beacon of knowledge, the inhabitants of Zardos, the Zardosians, had transcended the trivial squabbles which often divided mankind, harnessing the power of the natural elements with an understanding that far surpassed the confines of human comprehension.
However, this utopia descended into chaos with the rise of a power-crazed Zardosian, Quenthel. Quenthel possessed a mesmerizing aura of persuasion which manipulated the harmonious Zardosians into developing a forbidden technology, an 'Elemental Reversion Device,' capable of reverting the natural processes and effectively disrupting the balance of the Earth.
Ilmar, a wise Zardosian scientist laden with guilt and responsibility for what his society had become, secretly crafted a device - the 'Temporal Astrolabe' - a gateway to a different timeline where the making of the Elemental Reversion Device wasn't yet initiated.
Ilmar journeyed into this alternate timeline to his past self, bearing the heavy burden of showing the catastrophic future they were naively headed towards. The sight of Quenthel forcing the Zardosian scientists to accelerate the reckless experiment in the Elemental Reversion Device, the destruction it wrought and the crumbling of Zardos under its effects were horrifyingly real and poignant in his young past-self's eyes. His past self, stricken and appalled, agreed to help change this nightmarish fate.
Together, they hatched a plan to thwart Quenthel and destroy the Elemental Reversion Device blueprint, thereby steering Zardos from the path to apocalypse. In the alternate world, they formed a secret alliance of enlightened Zardosians who infiltrated Quenthel's inner sanctum and annihilated the blueprint, disrupting Quenthel's furious ambition and restoring harmony to Zardos.
Unfortunately, Ilmar's victory was steeped in bitter sweetness. The confluence of two interacting timelines posed a grave hazard to the continuum of universe. Thus, Ilmar needed to make the ultimate sacrifice to sever the sensitive link – he disconnected the Temporal Astrolabe, trapping himself in the alternate timeline. His only solace was his successful redemption of Zardos, which remained safe and thriving in the original timeline, carrying forth their wisdom and harmony throughout the oceans’ abyss.
Back in the original timeline, the Zardosians lived on in blissful innocence of their narrowly-avoided doom. Unaware of Ilmar's selfless sacrifice, they continued to flourish in their underwater utopia, coexisting humbly with the Earth's elements and exploring new dimensions of knowledge and technology to use for the wellness of their civilization and the planet itself.
And so while Zardos flourished, and Quenthel's obsessive pursuit of power was dissolved into insignificance, back in an unpaired timeline, an old Zardosian scientist, Ilmar, lived out his days carrying the memories of a world saved by action and sacrifice. His gaze lay heavy on the thriving city of Zardos in his timeline, its existence a bittersweet reminder of a past full of horrors and a future rewritten in hope and unity. Nostalgia and regret battled in his heart, and yet, he couldn’t help but smile at the serenity in his world.
Ilmar, the unsung hero of Zardos, had changed the fate of an entire civilization, marking an undeniable, yet secretive trail in the sands of time. His story served as a stark reminder that the pursuit of power without regard for harmony only spelled doom, and that hope, unity, and self-sacrifice were the true forces capable of repairing a torn world.
