The Lost City of Serendipity
Once upon a time, in a forgotten epoch, there was an obscure realm whirled inside convoluted splendid mountains called 'Serendipity.' The city's enigma was augmented by its separation from the cemented world of reality, its only association to the realm was by the flight of angels or by complex web of secret tunnels under the mountains which only the denizens of Serendipity knew.
The city was renowned for its marvelous inventions. Certain inventions were almost like sorcery, unheard and unseen, that could only conjure the realm of fantasy. Wondrous machines could transform barren lands into lush gardens overnight; time-travel devices enabled citizens access to different epochs; miraculous medical inventions could treat the most olden ailments and elixirs that bestowed infinite youth. All these inventions were kept secretive and safeguarded from the rest of the world.
The linchpin of the city was the Wise Sage, an octogenarian who was blessed with infinite wisdom and unblemished foresight. Sage was the mastermind behind the inventions; his sharp intellect, superior craftsmanship, and untrodden creativity were the forces that drove the miracles of Serendipity.
One fine morning, the Sage, sitting under the blue-dappled sky next to the Azure waterfall, was approached by a young lad, Reuben. Reuben had an extraordinary curiosity and a thirst to pioneer something new. He was an ardent protégé of the Sage but was restless. He yearned to introduce these magical inventions to the rest of the world, to help the outcasts, the unfortunate, and the diseased.
Against Wise Sage's discretion, Reuben embarked on his journey, taking with him several of the city's guarded secrets. Many moons later, he reached the edges of the ordinary world. The marvels of Serendipity astounded the realm and people overly rejoiced these creations, improving their lives drastically. For a while, everything bore bliss, pure and unscathed like the fragrance of the untouched morning dew.
However, as time passed an ominous wave of greed and lust for power tainted the pure hearts, once awed by the miracles. The elixir for eternal youth led to the king's dictatorship. The ability to treat ailments undeterred the natural course of life, leading to overpopulation and depletion of resources. The time-travel devices started causing mayhem, with history getting altered and futures getting blundered. Happiness was slowly replaced by despair, gratitude by greed.
Meanwhile, in Serendipity, the Sage predicted an ill-omened future for the city. The mountains trembled with fury at the stolen secrets and ruptured their veins. Destruction rained upon the city in torrents and soon, the city was reduced to ruins.
Upon hearing the news, Reuben, guilt-ridden, decided to make amends. He returned to Serendipity with tremendous remorse. Amid the rubble, he found the Sage, old and weak but resilient. They began the task of rebuilding the city and retrieving the inventions, gradually nursing her back to the beautiful city she once encased.
In an effort to restore balance to the outside world, Reuben confronted its king, dispossessed him of eternal youth, made people accept life's cyclicity, retrieved all the chaos creating devices, and returned them to Serendipity, restoring the status quo.
With time, the world reverted to its original pace, civilization flourishing naturally as meant to be. The city of Serendipity, once again, lost its traces, waiting silently in the solitude of the spiraling mountains for another tale, another adventure.
Reuben indeed learnt a valuable lesson: that all things, however enticing they might seem, have their place and disrupting it can cause destruction. Although he was the cause of havoc at one point, he earned respect and forgiveness through his heroic deeds. The city inscribed his tale in the annals, teaching generations about wisdom, courage, and the importance of balance in life.
