The Lights of Valor

Once upon a time, in a land beset with darkness, there lived a boy named Ilai. He was a child of radiant complexion, with eyes like twin suns and a heart full of compassion.
The land had not always been submerged in such blackness. It was cursed by a wicked sorcerer after a fatal strike from the sword of the then, king, Minos. As he lay dying, the sorcerer had swore to sink the kingdom in perpetual darkness.
The kingdom of Grivale suffered greatly under the never-ending night. Its beautiful landscapes wilted away, the vivid and verdant colors of life stripped bare, leaving only a shadow of its once vibrant aura.
Ilai, the son of a blacksmith, inspired hope in the hearts of many. He loved stories of valor and courage, wandently idling around old Lear, the storyteller, to recount the tales of brave knights and cunning sorcerers.
One day, as Lear was unfolding the tale of the Sunstone, a miraculous gem with powers to compel the sun itself, Ilai's heart filled with a wild desire. The Sunstone was the kingdom's only hope to restore the light and break the sorcerer's curse. To the boy's disappointment, the stone was said to be locked away in a dragon-guarded fortress high in the Ironshard mountains, lost to the world.
Gathering his wits and the little courage he could muster, Ilai bid farewell to his father and ventured out in search of the Sunstone. As he journeyed, the perpetual night mocked him; chilling winds sang the songs of doom, and often, he nearly succumbed to despair. But the fire of hope burning in his chest guided him.
The shadowy skies of Grivale parted one day to reveal the Ironshard mountains looming before him. The snow-capped peaks pierced the darkness, daring anyone who dared to infiltrate their dominion. Amid these jagged chains resided the dragon-guarded fortress.
Courage filling his heart, Ilai climbed the treacherous mountain. He sneaked into the fortress, his heart pounding like a drum in the quietude of the dark. There, he was met with the sight of a humongous dragon curled around a pedestal, atop which shone the Sunstone bathing the fortress in its golden glow.
The dragon awoke sensing the presence of a stranger. It bared its fangs and spewed fire. But Ilai stood, undeterred. He told the dragon about the sorry state of Grivale and his quest to restore sunlight. The dragon, charmed by the sincerity and courage of the lad agreed to entrust him with the Sunstone on one condition.
Ilai had to promise that once the curse was lifted, he would return the stone to the dragon. The boy was filled with gratitude. He knelt before the dragon pledging his loyalty and returned with the Sunstone clutched in his hand.
When Ilai returned to Grivale with the Sunstone, the entire kingdom erupted in joy. He climbed the highest tower of the castle and lifted the Sunstone towards the heavens. A beam of light spurted out from the stone slicing through the gloomy skies.
The Sunstone’s glow intensified, pulling the sun out from its eternal shroud. The darkness gradually receded giving way to a brilliant sunrise. As the skies turned from charcoal black to washes of pink, orange, and finally a bright blue, the kingdom of Grivale was once again bathed in light.
Tears of joy and laughter filled the air, as the people celebrated the return of light and life. Minos, the old king, praised the bravery of the ordinary blacksmith’s boy, declaring him, 'Ilai the Illuminator' right before bestowing knightly honor on him.
The tale of Ilai reverberated in every heart and corner. The story of an ordinary boy, possessed by no powers, or magic, but steered by courage and a desire to uplift his land from an age-old curse. True to his promise, Ilai returned the Sunstone to the dragon, but the light it pulled from the sun, stayed, dispelling the darkness forever.
It was a tale of inspiration and hope, reminding all that no matter how suffocating the darkness, the dawn of light is but a resilient heart-beat away.
