The Legend of the Lantern Keeper

In the realm of Faelee, where humans and mystical creatures co-existed, there was a tradition unheard of in the human world. The day was known as the 'Night of the Gleaming Lanterns.' Each year, as the moon took the lead in the sky, everyone would light a lantern and release it, creating a spectacle of glowing orbs that painted the night sky with splashes of warm colours.
Kael, a young lad, was known as the Lantern Keeper, responsible for making lanterns all year long for this very night. He was an orphan, adopted by the village elder Orlan. Despite his young age, he carried the burden of the village's hopes and dreams with dignity and grace, pouring love and care into each lantern he made.
One day, Orlan presented Kael with an ancient scroll, handed down through generations. It was said to contain a magic spell that breathed life into lanterns. Rumor had it that it was crafted by the first Lantern Keeper, a powerful sorceress, to ensure prosperity and protect Faelee from darkness. But no one knew how to read the scroll since the sorceress's language had been lost to time. Kael, however, took it with the promise to decipher it in time for the next Night of the Gleaming Lanterns.
Days turned into months, and the Night of the gleaming lanterns was drawing near. Despite the utmost effort, Kael was unable to decipher the scroll, a fact which he confided in his childhood friend, a mermaid named Lilia. Understanding the burden pressing down on Kael, Lilia swam to the depths of the Lustrous Lake, where the Oracle resided.
The Oracle, aware of the situation, handed Lilia a luminescent pearl with ancient powers. When sent under the moonlight, this pearl would reveal the meaning of the ancient language. Lilia took the pearl and journeyed back to Kael, who was disheartened. He thanked Lilia for her help, offering the most beautiful lantern he had created as a symbol of their friendship.
It was finally the Night of the Gleaming Lanterns. People were anxiously waiting for their lanterns. Kael held the pearl under the moonlight, and magical waves began to caress the ancient scroll words, turning them into comprehensible language. Excitement filled his heart as he recited the spell on each lantern, and they all came to life, ringing like a melodious symphony under the night sky.
As the people started to release the lanterns, a swarm of shadows began to descend upon Faelee. Panic followed, and the happiness turned into terror. The village elder, Orlan, knew it was the darkness the sorceress had once warned about. Amid the chaos, Kael, overcoming his fear, recited the spell again. The lanterns started to move, gathering together to form a colossal ball of light in the air.
Outstandingly, they started to sing the same melody from earlier and shot down brilliant beams of light that pierced through the shadows. Unable to stand the light and warmth, the shadows shrieked and retreated, fading away. The sky was clear again, adorned with glimmers of the triumphant lanterns.
Kael was cheered and hailed as a hero, the true Lantern Keeper. His courage and determination had saved Faelee from the enveloping darkness.
The tale of Kael’s courage, along with his magical lanterns, was passed down through generations. They named him 'The Lantern Keeper' who lighted the way to prosperity and kept the darkness at bay. And the Night of the Gleaming Lanterns remained a symbol of hope, light, and victory over evil.
Hence, it is said, in every light that soars the sky, there lies the spirit of the Lantern Keeper, reminding the world of the beauty of courage and the strength of unity.
