The Last Voyage of the Star Traveller
Once, in the realm of the unfathomable universe, riddled with stars, galaxies, and different celestial marvels, existed a small but extraordinary town called Novahaven. It was distinctive because it was located on the Selene spacecraft, popularly known as the 'Star Traveller,' that constantly swirled through the cosmic realms.
In Star Traveller, the townsfolk led a serene life, they'd often bask in the outer world's beauty, gazing at the infinite expanse of the universe dotted with radiant stars and colorful nebulas. Reflecting upon their existence, they'd oftentimes stand by the deck, their eyes twinkling as they beheld the magnificence of the cosmos.
In the heart of Novahaven lived an elderly man, Orion. Orion was a skilled astronaut, one of the last survivors from the original earth. He was known by everyone in the town for his stories about their ancestral home, Earth, its beauty, diversity, and how mankind evolved and learned to explore the stars.
One day, while Orion was narrating the tale of human's first moon landing to the townsfolk, suddenly alarms started blaring. A powerful tremor coursed through the spacecraft, causing panic among the residents. Men, women, and children bundled into safety chambers as Orion hurried to the spacecraft's control center.
The constructs of the 'Star Traveller' were complex, a manifestation of ancient Earth’s advanced technology. Orion, having a comprehensive knowledge of these constructs, knew what to look for. He discovered a huge asteroid cluster directly in their path, likely to hit them in hours. As this news spread among the Novahaven people, fear gripped their hearts. But as they looked at their composed leader, a glint of hope persisted in their eyes.
With all hands on deck, a plan was quickly formed. The situation was dire, still, the spacecraft’s age-old missile defense system could potentially neutralize the impending threat. But it required positioning a person outside, to manually target the asteroids. The risk was evident, but so was a faint light of survival.
The townsfolk, finding courage in Orion’s calm, entrusted him with this mission. So, at the age of 78, Orion, in his astronaut suit, embarked on a mission he knew could be his last. Time was against them, he moved briskly, hopping from one slender ledge of the spaceship to another, placing the homing devices on the exact locations.
His breath was irregular, heart pounding as he moved with agility defying his age. And with the last device in place, he pushed himself off the surface just as the missiles got fired. A spectacular explosion lit up the cosmos, the asteroids were neutralized, and a cheer of joy resonated through the Star Traveller, a cheer eclipsed with a shriek of horror.
Orion, who had saved them all, was hit by the shockwave and was catapulted into the vast, infinite universe. As the people gazed into the abyss painted with horror, Orion instead was calm. He had saved his home, his family. Looking at the distant 'Star Traveller,' the abode of aspirations, dreams, sacrifices, and love, he drifted away into the eternal cosmos.
Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and the people of the Star Traveller continued their cosmic exploration, keeping Orion alive in their stories. He became a legend. The elderly man who was once a charming story-teller was now the protagonist of the town's most heroic tale.
The story of Orion was passed down through the gilded words of history. His last voyage became a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and love for what you behold dear. His existence, although led amongst the stars, connected them back with their home, Earth. And his valiance became the beacon that illuminated their paths in their voyages amongst the vast, infinite universe.
