The Last Guardian of Balsora
Once upon a time, in the far-off land of Balsora, existed a fortress that was concealed from the world. Within its hardened rocks lived a Guardian, Constans, bestowed with the responsibility of protecting the kingdom from imminent dangers.
Now, Constans was not born a Guardian but was chosen by the previous one. Strong, brave, and wise beyond his years, he was known as a trusted custodian who had his people's faith and loyalty. But as years passed, Constans grew old, and it was time to find a new Guardian.
Among the kingdom's youth, two stood out as potential successors–Eldivia, a courageous girl with a heart purer than a thriving brook, and Yorric, a clever lad with the courage of a hundred lions. They were chosen to compete for the coveted role.
For months they trained, learning the art of combat, the language of nature, and words of ancient wisdom. Then came the trial day. On top of the highest peak, amidst the eternal blanket of snow, both were to face a dragon, a beast of pure rage and untamed power. The one to tame it would be the new Guardian.
The day arrived, the dragon bellowed, and Eldivia stepped forth first. She drew her sword, her heart full of valor, and eyes gleaming with determination. But instead of charging, she simply held out her sword. The dragon drew closer, its eyes meeting Eldivia's. For a brief moment, everything paused. Then, the dragon lowered its colossal head to the maiden, acknowledging her bravery and surrendering its pride. Eldivia had conquered with compassion rather than force.
Now it was Yorric's turn. The clever boy, having witnessed Eldivia, chose another approach. He walked confidently, carrying no weapon. Standing before the dragon, he met its gaze and started whispering, words that seemed to flow like an ancient melody. The dragon listened, its eyes reflecting comprehension, and eventually, bowed its head to Yorric. It was magic— a language beyond human comprehension that Yorric had mastered.
Both had succeeded but only one could be the Guardian. The kingdom fell into deep contemplation. Eldivia's tale carried the spirit of respect and kindness, whereas Yorric's story echoed wisdom and cunning.
The days passed, and tension escalated as the moment of decision drew closer. It was then that the kingdom of Balsora was threatened by a monstrous shadow, a creature of umbrage named Moros that had awakened from a thousand-year slumber.
Unlike the dragon, Moros could not be tamed. It saw everything good as its enemy and began wreaking havoc, destroying everything in its path, heading straight towards the fortress. Confusion and fear spread through Balsora.
Constans knew it was time. Eldivia and Yorric stood by him, not as contenders but as Balsora’s last hope. In this dire hour, they chose unity over rivalry. Eldivia's steadfast courage led them into battle while Yorric's cunning strategy planned their victory. As the trio faced Moros, it roared, its noise echoing through the mountains and striking fear even in the bravest hearts.
But Eldivia charged, her valour undying. She managed to distract Moros, while Yorric chanted his incantations. As Moros advanced towards Eldivia, Yorric's spell hit it. Confused and weakened, it was an opportunity for Eldivia's final stroke. And thus, with one courageous blow, Moros was defeated, disappearing into thin air just as quickly as it had appeared.
As Bethora heaved a sigh of relief, it was evident who the Guardian would be. Eldivia, with her courage, and Yorric, with his wisdom, both stood tall, having saved their kingdom. Constans, with teary eyes and a proud heart, named them co-guardians of Balsora. His last words were, 'Bravery and Wisdom are two sides of a coin; one without the other is incomplete. The true strength of a Guardian lies in balance.'
And thus, for the first time, Balsora found itself in the hands of not one, but two Guardians. Eldivia, the maiden with a brave heart, and Yorric, the lad with an equally brave mind. Theirs was a tale that passed down generations, reminding Balsorians that even during trials and tribulations, unity triumphs over complexity, equity over rivalry, and compassion over chaos.
