The Last Dance of the Snowflake
Once upon a time, in the far reaches of the midnight blue sky lived a host of stars and their friends, the snowflakes. In this frosty and celestial expanse, there was one special snowflake - Iris. Unique and radiant compared to others, her crystal edges exuded a brilliance that rivalled even the most luminous stars. Tagged as the 'Shining Jewel of the Sky', Iris was loved, admired, and envied.
Every winter, it was a grand spectacle to watch these glittering snowflakes descend from their frosty abode to earth. Their balletic fall was a beautiful paradox of gentle intensity that people watched in awe from their houses, sipping warm cocoa near crackling fires.
One particular winter, Iris was supposed to make her journey to earth. Having always watched the world below from her celestial home, she was ecstatic to finally touch the earth's surface. Filled with eager anticipation, her heart was also tinged with sadness as she knew it would be her last dance - a one-way journey, never to return.
The day finally arrived when Iris, along with her companions, started their grand descent. As opposed to their usual descent, Iris chose to take the scenic route, twirling and dancing around the softer clouds, brushing past the towering and intimidating stormy ones, and even daring to come near the sun to catch a golden tan. All the while, she captured breath-taking views of the world below her.
With each lowered altitude, the world seemed enchanting and intimidating, all at once. She marveled at the towering mountains with their head held high, their white snowcaps like a distant relative of hers. The dark, serene, and endless oceans fascinated Iris, the waves holding a rhythmic dance of their own.
She swept past colossal cities, their skylines adorned with twinkling lights competing with the stars she knew so well. Her attention was drawn to the laughter from the bustling cafes, the couples stealing glances under the veil of twilight, and the snowball fights of young kids in parks.
As she moved towards the smaller, picturesque countryside, she saw a sight that tugged her heartstrings. Sitting by the window of a small, wooden house was a little girl, her face pressed against the cool glass, eyes reflecting the playfulness of the stars above and the tranquility of the snowy landscape beneath. Iris was captivated by this sight. She decided then and there, with the resolution paralleled only by the bravest of knights, to reach the girl. She drove all her energy to change her course, only to reach the longing eyes of this child.
With one final twirl, Iris made a graceful landing. The girl's eyes sparkled and her heart seemed to hum a symphony, as if it knew the honour it had just been bestowed with. She had just been kissed by the twinkling jewel of the sky.
The last embrace of Iris was a soft touch filled with an ephemeral warmth that replicated a thousand suns. It was short-lived but carried an eternity within it, a dichotomy the world cherished every winter.
From her heavenly abode to earthly comforts, Iris had danced her last dance. Even though she was no more, her essence was forever captured in the heart of a young girl who'd forever remember the story of a snowflake that chose her window for her last performance.
