The Lantern of the Lost
In the quiet town of Keldor, nestled next to the great Harper forest, there was a legend of a mystical Lantern that could guide any lost soul home. The story began during the time of old, a tale passed down through generations, evoking a sense of wonder and fear each time it was recounted.
In the heart of the Harper forest, a very old tree named Elden existed which was home to an enchanting lantern known as 'Ara'. Legend had it that Ara, the 'Lantern of the Lost', glowed in all its might displaying resplendent colors, only when a lost soul wanders in the forest. The Mayor's son, young Elias, was a curious lad, forever intrigued by the myths surrounding the Lantern. He decided to unravel the mystery of Ara himself.
Elias ventured into the forest with his heart full of determination. The labyrinthine woods were menacing, whispering secrets as the wind tiptoed around. Torch in hand, Elias delved deeper. The regular noise of the forest silenced abruptly, replaced by an ethereal hum. A breathtaking sight caught Elias’s eye - the old tree Elden, bathed in a veil of soft, colourful radiance. The Lantern of the Lost hung there, as majestic as the tales painted it to be.
Encased in an ageless crystal, the Lantern twinkled like a constellation of stars. He reached out, feeling an inexplicable sense of warmth and home. An intense brightness lit up the entire expanse of the forest, throwing shades of reds and blues and greens in all directions. Elias then felt something that he did not feel since he stepped into the forest - Fear. What if the tales of the lantern leading him forever into the abyss were true? He recoiled, his heart pounding like a smithy's hammer.
As the light softened, a translucent figure materialized before Elias. It was an ancient old man with a crown of leaves. His eyes gleamed with wisdom and age. He introduced himself as 'Aeron', the guardian of Ara. He explained to Elias that Ara only reveals itself to those who are lost, not merely physically, but those lost within their hearts, seeking answers.
Elias understood that he was lost, trapped in his insatiable curiosity and doubts. He confessed to Aeron his fear of the legends surrounding the lantern. Aeron smiled and said that fear is born from the unknown. Ara was not there to entrap, but to illuminate the path for people lost in their lives, seeking a way out.
Consoled, Elias reached out to touch Ara, and instantly a bright path appeared, leading him back home. Elias returned, a new sense of enlightenment adorning his spirit. He shared his story with the village, who were amazed by his bravery and the truth about Ara. From then on, Elias was no longer just the Mayor's son, but the brave boy who debunked the fearful myths that shrouded the Lantern.
Eventually, Elias grew up to become the mayor of Keldor. He then established an annual 'Lantern Day' where villagers would celebrate Ara with brightly lit lanterns, cast in the river flowing through the village, symbolizing the guiding light towards their path.
In the end, Ara, the Lantern of the Lost, became a beacon of hope for the villagers. It reminded everyone that in times of doubt and fear, one needs to embrace their lost self, for it is in the quest of seeking that one finds their way.
