The Lantern of New Laurels
In the town of New Laurels, there was an exceedingly ordinary boy named Walter. Walter lived with his widowed mother, dedicating every daylight hour to the cumbersome task of mountain farming.
Each evening, Walter would clamber up the hill to harvest potatoes. One evening, while toiling on the hillsides, he noticed unusual sparks flying out from the earth. On digging deeper, he unearthed a strange object - a lantern not made of any material he could recognize. Intrigued, he decided to carry it home.
Walter dusted it off, revealing an inscribed message that seemed to be some forgotten language. Walter possessed an innate love for codes and languages, thus he endeavored to decode the cryptic inscriptions. After relentless days and sleepless nights, he finally succeeded. The deciphered message read: 'He who illuminifies the darkness, summons the Guardian of The Hidden.'
One night, driven by curiosity, he lit the lantern. To his surprise, the lantern did not illuminate the surroundings, but, instead, engulfed the room in complete darkness. Suddenly, a celestial creature appeared out of the abyss. It was the Guardian mentioned in the inscription. With silvery-blue scales and gleaming golden eyes, it was an awe-inspiring sight.
The Guardian explained its binding contract to the lantern; whoever lit the lantern became its master. It was the protector and server of a powerful but forgotten civilization. The Guardian granted the master of the lantern the power of 'Elicio'.
Walter, still bewildered, struggled to understand the overwhelming information. The Guardian clarified, 'Every time you utter 'Elicio', you can transport any object from one place to another instantly. But remember, the power comes with a responsibility. Use it wisely.'
Walter's life transformed drastically. Everyday errands became a breeze. He transported harvested crops directly from the farm to the market. He became the town's hero when he transported the town's only well's water directly to every household during a severe drought. New Laurels prospered because of Walter.
His remarkable deeds did not remain unnoticed for long. Rumors of a magical boy spread far and wide, reaching Laurence, the tyrannical king of the neighbouring realm. Coveting the miraculous powers, Laurence abducted Walter's mother to force him to renounce his powers.
Despite his fear, Walter was determined to save his mother. He used 'Elicio' to transport into the king's palace. But Laurence was ready; he seized the lantern and commanded the Guardian to bind him as the master. The lantern, however, didn't respond.
'Only a heart as pure as light can control me,' exclaimed the Guardian. Laurence tried to use 'Elicio', but nothing happened. Walter quickly grasped the situation, seized the lantern, and demanded Laurence to release his mother.
Realising there was no way he could win, Laurence was forced to do as he was told. Encapsulating his mother in a protective shield, Walter transported both of them back to New Laurels.
Consequently, Walter adopted a hermit's life, vowing to protect the lantern and its powers, ensuring it wouldn't cause any harm or fall into the wrong hands again. For the rest of his life, he lived on the hillside above New Laurels, the simple boy who saved his town and taught them the true meaning of power and responsibility.
