The Kingdom Beneath the Ocean
Once upon a time, there was a kingdom called Elocin, hidden far beneath the waves of the vast, blue ocean that was as mesmerising as a shimmering sapphire. Inhabited by merpeople, the kingdom was a utopia, undisturbed by human intervention.
Elocin was ruled by King Neptune and Queen Aurora. Their benevolent ruling style made them beloved among their subjects. The royal couple had a beautiful daughter, Princess Naida. Naida was not just beautiful but also blessed with a wise mind, a kind heart, and the voice of an angel. Yet, she was known for her undying curiosity about the humans and their world beyond the ocean.
One day, while swimming near the ocean’s surface, Naida saw a ship floundering amidst a violent storm. Seeing a young man drowning, she rescued him and brought him to the shore. This was her first close interaction with a human and her fascination increased manifold.
Unbeknownst to her, in doing so, she had defied the most important law of Elocin - contact with humans was forbidden. The law protected them from human greed and exploitation.
However, her secret was not safe for too long. One day, one of the palace guards noticed the strand of human hair on Naida's personal belongings. The discovery was brought to King Neptune's attention, leaving him both angry and disappointed. Despite his affection for his daughter, he was left with no choice but to banish her from their oceanic kingdom as per the laws of Elocin.
Sent to live on land, Naida struggled initially but eventually adapted. Through her struggles, she began understanding and appreciating the human world, its peculiarities and wonders. She learned their languages, tastes, and customs. Naida's sweet voice enchanted those who heard her, thus allowing her to earn a living singing in the local tavern.
Meanwhile, in the ocean, Elocin was facing grave troubles. An ancient beast had awoken from its slumber, endangering the kingdom. The beast could only be tamed by the enchanted melody of a true Elocin-born mermaid. The kingdom was in dire need of Naida.
Back on the surface, Naida had discovered the truth about the human she had saved. He was the young Prince Rodrigo from a nearby kingdom. They fell in love. But, Naida's momentary happiness ceased when she learned about the danger her kingdom was in.
Facing an irrefutable dilemma, Naida chose duty over love. With a heavy heart, she bade farewell to her beloved, promising to return once she had saved Elocin. Rodrigo respected her decision, providing a token of his love, a necklace embedded with the rarest blue stone.
With Neptune's permission, Naida returned to Elocin. Using her melodious voice, she soothed the ancient beast into returning to its slumber, thus saving her kingdom. However, the spell left her voiceless.
As promised, she returned to Rodrigo. Her inability to sing or speak of her love for him made them realize that love was boundless, and it went beyond spoken words or melodious songs. Rodrigo confessed his love, leaving no room for words, and they lived peacefully thereafter, with Naida visiting her kingdom often.
Their story spread in both the kingdoms, becoming a legend that taught everyone the real essence of love, duty, and the power of sacrifice.
