The Heartbeat of the Mountain
Once upon a time, in a remote village in Northern India, nestled between lush green farms and snow-clad mountains, lived a humble farmer named Pranay. Pranay was renowned for his diligence and kindness, not only in his village but in the entire valley. He was a man inseparable from the nature around him, and the mountain that stood adjacent to his farmland was his absolute pride.
It was an ancient belief of the inhabitants that the mountain was alive, and its beating heart gave power and prosperity to the lands that surrounded it. An age-old legend narrated that the divine heartbeat would cease if anyone tried to exploit the mountain's resources greedily. And so, the people respected the mountain just as they would a protective deity. Pranay too, believing in the tale, held immense reverence for the mountain and lauded it's great stature.
One day, an entrepreneur from the city named Arjun, visited this quaint village. He was there to assess mineral resources, and he was drawn to the magnanimous mountain. With a selfish desire to exploit the mountain's resources, he met Pranay to seek his support in his endeavor. Pranay, although a simple man, instantly identified Arjun's greed-filled intentions and refused outright, warning him about the ancient belief. Arjun, driven by ambition and skeptic of these beliefs, dismissed Pranay's warnings as baseless superstitions.
Arjun organized a team of like-minded individuals and started excavating the mountain. Pranay, anguished and helpless, could do nothing but protest. He tried to mobilize his fellow villagers, but they were equally powerless against the city folks who had the backing of the authorities.
A few weeks in, the team struck a precious mineral deposit. Overjoyed by the discovery, Arjun decided to celebrate and organise a feast for his team at the excavation site. Despite their success, Pranay felt a sense of unease; a foreboding grief loomed over him caused by the incessant disturbance to the mountain. He resolved to pay a visit to the excavation site to witness the celebration, hopeful that he may still prevent a disaster.
Pranay arrived at the site just as the celebrations were at its peak. Suddenly, the ground started shaking violently, toppling food, drink, and merry-makers. The mountain, the spiritual deity, had had enough. It shook with such fury that boulders fell, revealing a cavern that consumed Arjun and the miners. The relentless shakes halted only when the mountain had swallowed every enemy in sight.
The villagers, including Pranay, watched this astounding spectacle in awe and terror. They mourned the tragedy, knowing that it could have been avoided, had the city folks heeded the warnings. A profound silence fell over the village that night; the heartbeat of the mountain was audible once again, strong and steady.
In the aftermath of the incident, Pranay and his fellow villagers did everything to restore the peace and tranquility of their mountains. They planted trees and appointed guards to prevent any future exploitation. Over time, the event became a living legend, churning out numerous tales about the wrath and benevolence of the mountain.
At the foothill of the sacred mountain, under the clear azure sky, the village prospered under its continued protection. The harmony of man, nature, belief, and the mighty mountain pulsated in the constant rhythm of the mountain-heartbeat. The villagers revered the mountain more than ever, and Pranay remained its staunchest devotee till his last breath.
Through this tale of faith, respect, and retribution, Pranay's legacy lived on, deep-rooted in the rhythm of the mountain-heartbeat, a testament of love for nature and the price of greed. The echo of the heartbeat in the tranquil valley was a constant reminder to the generations to come - to live with nature, not off it.
