The Haunting of Dungherford House
In the small village of Dubelia rested a legendary house, the Dungherford House, named after its former lord Frederick Dungherford. According to local folklore, the house was haunted by its previous master's ghost who lost his life in the vicious war against the kingdom of Esterland.
One autumn night, the Buckner twins, Toby and Robby, dared each other to spend a night inside the haunted house. Looming over the rest of the village, the old mansion creaked under the weight of a history laden with mystery, torment, and unfulfilled promises. Although they were apprehensive, their relentless adventurous spirit pushed them to go beyond their fear.
Once inside, they felt a chilly gust of wind that caused the vintage chandelier to sway gently, casting ghostly shadows around the room. Every crooked painting, antique furniture, and porcelain trinket seemed to intensify the eerie silence that hung heavy in the air. Undeterred, Toby and Robby started exploring each hidden corner, passing through centuries-old corridors.
At midnight, they heard a mysterious sound coming from the attic. Startled, they armed themselves with broken candle stands and decided to investigate the source. Climbing the rickety stairs, holding their makeshift torches in hand, they moved towards the chilling sound.
Inside the attic, they discovered an ancient trunk laden with dust. To their surprise, it held nothing more than a beautifully designed, golden amulet and a parchment. On this parchment written in Old Esterlandian were the words, 'Peace to the departed soul.'
Robby, an aspiring scholar, translated and recited the written words aloud. From the depths of nothingness manifested the translucent figure of Lord Dungherford. His figure emanated both pain and relief. With a soft sigh, he thanked the twins for their deed and pledged to leave the house forever and head to his eternal rest.
Lord Dungherford vanished in an ethereal puff, leaving behind a silence more profound than before and a sense of fulfillment washed over the twins. They spent the rest of their night inside the house without any disturbance. The dawn brought them home, with the villagers astounded by their bravery.
Since that day, the Dungherford House was no longer haunted. The twins restored it and it became a beacon of adventure and brotherhood in the village. Their brave endeavor altered the legend bound to the mansion, and generations to come heard tales not of a haunted house, but of the courageous Buckner twins, who made peace with the ghost of a long-gone lord.
