The Gift of the Emerald Eye

In the tiny, idyllic village of Ainsmoor, nestled within a thick, untouched forest, there existed a unique blend of mundane and ethereal. This was the land of artisans whose creations held a certain ‘magic’ that outsiders could hardly comprehend.
Our tale revolves around the life of a young girl named Esabelle. She was known far and wide for her striking emerald eyes that seemed to hold within them the mysteries of the cosmos. Though she was the daughter of a humble blacksmith, Esabelle was talented in the art of weaving tapestries depicting tales of yore and famed prodigies.
One day, while weaving a tale of an ancient warrior, Esabelle felt a strange twinge in her eyes, swaying her vision momentarily. Brushing it aside, she continued weaving, but was now overcome by an eerie sensation. She noticed how the warrior in her tapestry seemed to emanate a faint glow, almost lifelike, as if it was about to step out of the woven dimension.
Over the next few days, Esabelle discovered that anything she wove, came to life. From creating her pet canary, Melos, to the blooming apple tree that shimmered with golden apples in autumn, Esabelle unknowingly breathed life into her tapestries. She named this mysterious power ‘Loom of Life’ and decided to conceal her gift, afraid of the chaos it could potentially bring.
However, the old sage, Eldrad, happened to stumble upon her secret. Seeing the endless possibilities of Esabelle’s gift, he explained that her skill was an ancient magic that only appears to someone righteous and with a noble heart. With increasing unrest in the kingdom, Eldrad believed Esabelle’s power could protect Ainsmoor. Reluctantly, Esabelle agreed to harness her gift, learn to understand it and hope that she could use it effectively.
Weeks turned into months, and Esabelle became proficient in her unique magic, carefully creating warriors, majestic birds, and even creatures of lore like Griffins and Phoenixes. Her creations safeguarded the village, repelling bandits while maintaining the serenity of Ainsmoor. Life carried on as usual.
This tranquility, however, did not last long as rumours about a girl with emerald eyes that could bring creations to life spread far and wide, soon reaching the ears of the evil sorcerer, Malazar. Enthralled by the allure of this potentially devastating power, Malazar decided to seize it for himself.
One fateful night, Malazar assaulted Ainsmoor, his horde of grotesque creatures clawing at the edges of the village. Amidst the chaos, Esabelle wove her mightiest creation yet, a colossal dragon. The dragon fought fearlessly, incinerating Malazar’s minions.
Meanwhile, Esabelle was intercepted by Malazar, who attempted to steal her gift. Their battle was fierce, and in the end, Esabelle, driven by her love for her land, managed to weave a cage around Malazar, restraining him.
Her victory was short-lived as Malazar, with the last of his powers, cursed Esabelle, turning her gift into her doom. Seized by unbearable pain, Esabelle started turning into a magnificent tapestry. With her final breath, she wove herself into the Loom of Life, her spirit dwelling between the threads of her creations.
By the morning, the turmoil had ceased. The massive dragon diminished into a radiant tapestry depicting Esabelle. People observed in awe and sang praises of the Girl with the Emerald Eyes.
In the heart of Ainsmoor, her legend lives on, whispered in the rustling leaves, flowing streams, and the humming looms. It’s said that every time an artisan in Ainsmoor weaves a tale, the spirit of Esabelle guides their hand. They're sure because whenever they look into the pools of the nearby stream, Esabelle, with her radiant emerald eyes, gazes back.
