The Forgotten Catalyst

In a parallel universe, just a tear through the fabric of time and space away from us, lies a realm known as Parsec, the kingdom of mystical creatures and magical folklore. This land was ruled by the noble King Aldramoth and our story focuses on a silenced hero, a young peasant named Tom, who would become-known as the 'Forgotten Catalyst'.
Tom lived in the outskirts of Parsec, in a humble village of straw huts and bustling marketplaces. He helped his father tend their small farm, nurturing a few goats and chickens. They lived a modest life, but Tom dreamt far beyond the ordinary, of marvellous adventures that sprawled through enchanted forests and culminated in soaring castles.
One exceptionally starry night, a great comet known as the Herald of Change shot across the sky. Witnesses panicked, interpreting it as an omen. The following day, King Aldramoth announced a royal assembly to quell the unrest. Tom's enduring curiosity led him to attend the assembly covertly.
King Aldramoth spoke of an ancient prophecy, foretelling the arrival of a colossal beast, Erebus. Every thousand years, on a comet's flight, Erebus would awake from his slumber, bringing chaos and calamity if not appeased with the Golden Orb of Arkos. The catch was, the Golden Orb was lost ages ago, leaving Parsec vulnerable to Erebus's wrath. The king ended his declaration with a decree; a hefty reward for anyone who could find the orb.
Being adventurous and brave, Tom volunteered to retrieve the Golden Orb. The villagers laughed, dismissing him due to his youth. But his conviction earned him the King's permission. Thus, with the blessings of villagers, the mocks of sceptics in the backdrop, Tom embarked on his quest.
His journey took him through treacherous terrains, uncharted jungles, and deadly swamps. However, every hardship amplified his resolve. He battled monstrous creatures, outwitted cunning fox spirits, and breached the highest mountains. All his exploits were driven by the hope of saving Parsec and fulfilling his impossible dream.
Months later, following various clues and legends, Tom arrived at a temple. The last piece of ancient scripture led him to believe that this was the final resting place of the Orb. Here, he faced his greatest test – a riddling Sphinx guarding the Orb. With courage, wit, and a respectful nod to riddle lore, Tom solved the Sphinx's riddles, gaining access to the Orb. Alas, all legends were true, the Golden Orb of Arkos was real!
He journeyed back to Parsec, triumph evident in every stride. On his return, Tom was welcomed as a hero. He handed over the orb to King Aldramoth, just as Erebus began to stir. The king used the orb to pacify Erebus, once again securing the safety of their world.
Tom's heroic journey earned him the king’s gratitude and he was offered any reward of his choosing. Yet, Tom simply asked to be granted the duty of protecting the Golden Orb as its guardian. He didn't want riches, fame or power, but the task of safeguarding the peace and well-being of Parsec, sincerely dedicating himself to the responsibility of defense against any forthcoming perils.
Over time, tales of the King vanquishing Erebus with the Orb, outshone the narrative of Tom's quest. The villagers, once in awe of Tom, forgot his deeds, his name faded from stories, but Tom didn't mind. He was content being the peace-keeper, the forgotten catalyst that set about the salvation of Parsec.
