The Final Wish

Nestling in the beautiful hills of Adriel was an enchanting village, Broxius. The village was a tranquil realm replete with peace-loving inhabitants who rejoiced unity. Broxius was known for its divine aura, which abounded in serenity and mysticism. Amidst this blessed town lived an old wizard, Merlin, known for his magical knowledge and generosity.
Merlin, though revered by all, led a secluded life in his quaint stone cottage on the hillside. Intriguing tales of his magical powers and wisdom encapsulated the folklores of the town. Strangely, Merlin had an exceptional fondness for roses. He would often be seen nurturing the roses that thrived in his vast garden.
One day, a humble peasant boy, Alex, who admired Merlin enormously, decided to visit him, bearing the gift of a unique blue rose. Upon witnessing the rose, Merlin was overjoyed and in return, he decided to grant Alex one wish. The delighted boy, in his innocence, expressed his desire to possess magic powers just like Merlin. The wizard was apprehensive but cautionsly granted his wish, after explaining to him the responsibility that came along with it.
Days turned into months, Alex became popular and fondly known as 'the village wizard'. However, as time went by, the young wizard started misusing his powers. Forced by his increasing arrogance, he began using magic for his selfish needs, causing havoc in the previously serene village.
The villagers were terrified and turned to Merlin for help. The old wizard was disappointed and regretful, realizing his impulsive mistake. He knew he needed to counter his folly. One chilly dawn, Merlin invited Alex for a walk in his magnificent rose garden. He pointed towards a wilted rose and asked Alex to restore it using his magic. The young wizard, proud of his powers, readily agreed. Despite numerous attempts, he was unsuccessful.
Merlin then leaned towards the flower, whispered an inaudible incantation, and in an instant, the rose bloomed gloriously. Alex was perplexed, and in that moment Merlin revealed, β€œThe magic breathed life into the lifeless rose was compassion, empathy, and love, not the sorcery you've been flaoting.”
The reality hit Alex like a bolt, making him realise his follies. With a heavy heart, he apologized and implored Merlin to strip him of his powers, promising to live as an ordinary boy devoted to the service of his village. Merlin, satisfied with the epiphany Alex had, gladly accepted his request.
The incident shook the entire village, reminding them of the power of virtue over any magical power. Alex, though devoid of his magical powers, was happier than ever, serving his community, becoming a real-life hero.
And thus, life in Broxius returned to its peaceful normality. Merlin passed away some years later leaving behind tales of his magical wisdom, and the narrative of a humble boy who learned the hard way that the best magic lies in compassion and uprightness. The story of 'The Final Wish' became a popular fable in the village of Broxius, passing down generations, carrying mighty lessons of life wrapped in simplicity.
