The Eternal Mirror

In the beautiful border town of Arcona, nestled beside a blue river, lived two renowned glass blowers. Brothers by blood, they were the guardians of a magical artifact known as the 'Eternal Mirror.' This mirror, inherited from their ancestors, was rumoured to reflect the deepest desires of a person's heart. The town buzzed with tales of the marvelous mirror. However, the guardians were selective about who they allowed to gaze into it.
Elric, the elder brother, was prudent and meticulous. He believed in the purity of heart and insisted that only those with noble intentions could view the mirror. The younger brother, Edwin, was more lenient and sympathetic, often persuading Elric to let common folk take a peek. Their disparate ideologies often ignited disputes; however, their shared respect for each other and love for their art always reconciled them.
One day, a mysterious, rich man, named Lazar, arrived in town, carrying tales of exotic lands. He was intrigued by the lore of the 'Eternal Mirror.' After days of futile attempts to win the brothers' trust, Lazar devised a deceitful plan.
Lazar spread word through town that a fabulous fortune awaited those who found a 'Flaming Heirloom.' The townsfolk were sizzled by the notion of untold wealth, and Arcona was soon divided into factions, each seeking the proclaimed treasure. The once serene town pulsated with greed, and unity was cast aside.
Among the chaos, Lazar approached the brothers. At the sight of a divided town, Elric deduced Lazar's conniving plot and refused to let him use the mirror. Edwin, however, conflicted between his brother's prudence and town's act of greed, believed that the mirror could ultimately unite the town back.
Suspecting Lazar's intentions, Edwin proposed a challenge. If Lazar could touch the mirror without it reflecting greed, they would permit him to use it. If not, he would have to leave Arcona forever. Lazar, confident in his shrewdness, agreed to the terms.
However, when Lazar touched the mirror, to his shock, instead of reflecting riches, it showcased an image of an impoverished woman with two children. Taken aback, Lazar recognized the woman to be his long-abandoned wife. Enveloped by guilt, he fell to his knees, tears staining the intricately tiled floor.
Elric and Edwin were not surprised, for they had long known about the true power of the Eternal Mirror: It did not reflect one's deepest desire but provided a window to one’s most profound regret. They had used this wisdom to gauge people, secretly fostering noble intentions among Arcona’s inhabitants. It was their way of preserving the purity of the town.
This revelation transformed Lazar, who confessed his sinister plan and apologized to the brothers and the town. Guided by the newfound realization, Lazar set on a journey to find his family and beg for their forgiveness.
The news of the incident spread like wildfire. The townsfolk, sheepish and enlightened, discarded their petty disputes, realizing the value of unity and integrity, restoring the tranquility of Arcona.
As for the brothers, they continued to keep the town's secret, the 'Eternal Mirror,' skillfully using it to establish the timeless principles of virtue and brotherhood among the people of Arcona.
