The Emberstone of Asora

Long before the rise of modern kingdoms, in an age brimming with magic and mystery, there existed a realm named Asora. Its intimacy with magic and cherished diversity of subjects were akin to the sparkle of stars on a moonless night. It rested at the crest of seven valleys, protected by the bulwark of the Rauth Mountains.
Dwelling in this world were beings of all types, from humans to feys, elves to dwarves - all living peacefully under the benevolent rule of an ancient dragon king named Rodanthor. The source of the mighty king's power, and by extension, Asora’s prosperity and harmony, was the sacred Emberstone – a glowing, fiery red gem of incomparable magic. Nestled at the heart of the great castle of Rauth in a guarded vault, its radiance was as bright as the dawning sun, the stone’s divine spark setting an eternal glow.
The Emberstone was rumoured to have the power to control the mortal and magical realm, its magic fibre connecting the essence of every being that lived and bred on the fertile land of Asora. Prevalent legends had it that the Emberstone also had the ability to bestow great power or an eternal curse depending on the holder's intention.
Such knowledge, expectedly, gave rise to envy and greed in the dark corners of Asora. Afore long, a merciless warlock named Lorack began to covet the Emberstone. While he seemed to be a loyal subject of the dragon king, his insidious intentions seethed beneath the surface, toxifying his mind as he dreamed of seizing the stone and taking control of Asora.
On the eve of the Winter Solstice, when the night was the longest and the guards of Rauth were engaged in merriment, Lorack slithered his way into the heart of the castle. With relentless force, he broke into the vault, his unholy presence disturbing the harmony of the divine Emberstone.
However, the Emberstone was not without defence. Its own magic could sense the boiling evil in Lorack's heart, and instead of bestowing him with power, it lashed back with an eternal curse. The glow turned thunderous, the bright red turning a rich indigo, and in one fierce burst of energy, Lorack was reduced to nothing but ashes.
The Emberstone, having used a significant portion of its energy, retreated into a state of dormancy, its glow dimming to a dull flicker. Alarms rang out through Rauth, alerting Rodanthor about the disturbance. When he discovered the fate of his conniving subject and the state of the sacred stone, he was engulfed with sorrow and worry. The Emberstone's dormancy signalled a halt in its benefits to Asora.
Feeling responsible for the safety of his subjects, Rodanthor made a tremendous sacrifice. Using all his strength, he donated his life force to the Emberstone, reigniting its glow and reinforcing the magic bonds between the denizens of Asora.
And so the dragon king fell, his end echoing through the realms as the beginning of a new era of the Emberstone’s guardianship. The subjects mourned their benevolent ruler, but celebrated his heroic sacrifice. His memory was honoured in songs of old and legends spoken in hushed voices around warm hearths.
The land of Asora bloomed anew, the Emberstone’s magic restored and its bond with the creatures stronger than ever. To this day, Asora flourishes under the eternal watch of the Emberstone, the symbol of unity, sacrifice, and harmony. The people of the kingdom retell the tale of the Emberstone and their magnificent, selfless dragon king, a living testament of one's responsibilities towards their home and their people.
