The Echo from The Past
There was a small-town named Arkham, located in the heart of England. It had a mystic allure, resided quietly tucked away from the hustle-bustle of the cities. The importance of Arkham however, was its reputed high school, known throughout for its heritage and excellent teaching standards. On a fine summer morning of 1992, a mysterious student named Evan Walker joined this prestigious institution, in the middle of the academic year.
Evan was nothing like the ordinary, even by high school standards. He was remarkably intelligent, always ahead of his peers, and excelled in everything he did. Evan was reserved, quite pacey, and had unique habits – he always wore a handwatch that apparently belonged to an ancient era; an antique, and carried a book of puzzles boasting an alluring brown cover, wherever he went. The kids admired him, the teachers revered him, Evan was simply unusual in the most unusual ways.
The first suspicion directed towards him was when he solved, within minutes, an equation that the physics teacher, Mr. Moffat found tough to crack. The equation was evolved from a Numerical computation that the scientific world was just starting to decode. How could Evan know something that was bared to the world not long ago, was a question that puzzled them all.
Things started getting more suspicious when Evan began to stop accidents even before they happened. He would pull back a peer just before a football hit, warned a teacher against the falling flower pot from the ceiling, he even broke the school's fire alarm system a day before, pointing towards a possible fire break. Initially, people thought of his actions as mere coincidences. However, as time progressed, the eerie accuracy of Evan's predictions raised various doubts.
Rumors started spreading within the school that Evan could predict the future. The students, along with a few teachers, cornered him, wanting him to validate these rumors. Evan brushed them off at first but soon conceded under the constant pressure.
In front of the now gathered crowd, he unveiled his secret. He confessed being a time traveler from the year 2150, sent back in time to prevent certain mishaps from happening. The book of puzzles he carried was, in fact, an elaborate record of future incidents, and his watch was a device that enabled time travel. Evan was on a mission, guided by the future's principles of 'Correcting Time.'
The spectators were lost for words. They looked at each other in disbelief until Mr. Moffat held his voice. He spoke with a shaky breath, expressing disbelief in the concept of time travel. Evan proposed to demonstrate his claims by promising to stop a major upcoming tragedy according to his book.
The subsequent day added momentum to the rumors when Evan dialed the local police, warning them of a possible bank robbery in Arkham. When it indeed happened, and police were able to thwart the robbers due to the early warning, Evan's secret was out in the wild across the town, turning him into an instant sensation.
On the following day, prominent scientists descended upon the school to research this extraordinary phenomenon. They were skeptical initially but were enthralled once they saw the proof. Conversations about time travel, about Evan, spread like wildfire.
Months passed, and Evan successfully stopped several such instances which were going to disrupt peace, proving himself as a beacon of goodwill for Arkham. Once his mission was over, he bid farewell to everyone and disappeared, leaving behind his book of puzzles as a memoir.
The ripples created by Evan’s journey shifted the purpose of the quiet town of Arkham, transforming it into a hub of scientific research. The echoes of Evan Walker's tale became a timeless legend, inspiring generations to question the limits of time and space. The mysterious tale of Arkham gave the world hopes of a malleable future, leading to groundbreaking research in the field of quantum mechanics and the concept of time.
As Evan's enigma dissolved into the layers of Arkham's history, the words he left behind sparkled like stars, guiding the humanity towards the unknown - 'Time is a puzzle waiting to be solved, it’s our curiosity that would determine the momentum of our existence.'
