Edmund was a quintessential cobbler - nimble fingers, keen eyes, and an inborn talent of crafting beautiful shoes. However, his heart held a profound secret - a ravenous greed that consumed him. Edmund had a beautiful golden goose named Marigold, who laid golden eggs. Instead of being contented with his fortunate predicament, the cobbler sought more wealth.

One day, in his shop, a wizened, old woman appeared. She held a staff of finest ebony, her dull eyes shone with uncanny wiseness, and she wore a mysterious yet disarming smile. She wanted a pair of shoes. Edmund, sensing no wealth in her ragged appearance, rudely declined the request. However, the elderly woman insisted, revealing a golden egg as payment. True to his word, the cobbler returned to his humble craft. The villagers, seeing his change in character, returned their trust in him.
